Anybody know what's better, or safer, propane or nitrous? Just looking for a turn on/off power adder, and still be able to tow 10,000 lbs., and occasionally be able to smoke imports. Thanks guys, and awesome site!!!

I havent noticed anyone here running propane or nitrous and was curious about that too. I dont know much about either but Ive heard good things about propane injection, not to hijack this but whats the negatives on propane/nitrous? Is it bad for the truck or just more economical to get upgraded injectors? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

propane will add power and can increase fuel mileage, when combined with proper programming. however if abused it will break stuff. it can be really rough on rods and headgaskets.


nitrous won't do anything unless you've got larger injectors and don't have enough turbo to clean up the smoke/unburnt fuel.

i personally would go with(have) a set of beans stage 1's or with swamps "baby swamps". these will give you the powerboost and since they use stock nozzles they can be turned down for towing, while still making more power than stock. these also should have a few other supporting mod's, ex. intake, exhaust, gauges, and a tranny/clutch depending on tranny type.

propane. nitrous needs unburned fuel(black smoke) i ran propane and loved it except you can smell it sometimes. if you arent looking for huge power i would do that. i blew crap up cause i ran water meth a chip and propane and the it probably wouldnt have blow except the water meth injector was screwed up and was dumping in about a gallon per mile so it blew at WOT around 70 mph. just poped a headgasket but then the fire ring stamped the piston. headstuds would have been useful.

Towing my 10K 5er it was always downshifting out of overdrive, even on tiny hills. This drove me nuts and I couldn't afford new injectors. I found a used powershot2000 propane injection and I love it. I have it on low setting and it stops that anoying downshifting. Well, of course, not all downshifts but its very effective. There are times I'm tempted to turn it up but resist doing so, don't want to hurt the old girl.

I ran the Powershot2000 propane system for a few years (until I could afford injectors) in my '95, and it work great!
It is adjustable in how much propane you want (whether for power, or for towing purposes) and has been used by alot of folks in their Powerstrokes.
If you do a seach in Google or your favorite search engine, there is alot of information on the Powershot2000 system.

Does 'pane kill tranny's like big injectors? Do youhave to get your chip re-burnt to work properly with pane? Just curious.

My tranny has held up with just a Trans go shift kit in it and I tow heavy through various terrain.

You can turn most systems on or off as needed or just leave it on all the time like most of us. People that actually use propane injection do love it. We are just out enjoying and driving our trucks. So we don't post a lot!

i agree,you don't need them to tow and spank most things on the road.
if you can control your self it can be safe.but all it takes is one little inport to give you a run and you are cranking the juice up and stuff breaks. rember when adding HP stuff is going to brake on drugs or not.their no way around it.
