Hello All,

I am in the process of wrapping up a deal on a 1990 F250 Diesel. The truck is in great shape with just 80,000 miles on which I conformed with a Carfax report (assuming its right).

Its a single cab, 4x4, with a 5 speed, it was just want I was looking for. The only things that dont work are the AC and the fuel gauge when switch to the front tank, which is probably just the level sensing unit.

I am no stranger to diesels, but I am to Ford Diesels. I have owned an olds diesel powered truck, and 86 diesel Blazer, a Duramax for a short period of time, and I restore and drove a Diesel Chevette. Needless to say I love diesels.

I plan on using the truck for daily driver service, I have read about using SCA, and I use MMO as a fuel additive with ULSD, Aside from normal maintenance is there anything else I should be looking at for with this fantastic 7.3l diesel?

I am also kicking around the idea of getting a Turbo kit eventually, and I understand there are three manufacturers.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

The IP seems to last around 100,000 miles, so be advised of that expense coming up.

If you have an automatic overdrive, the E4OD, some are problematic.

After admitting owning an olds diesel powered truck, saying you love diesels was redundant! Enjoy your new ride

Old's ! Old's diesel ? That was just a diesel burning gasser.::icon_rolleyes:

Don't use any glow plug in them but Motorcraft/Beru ZD9 Autolites swell and give you lots of trouble.

Your tranny must be a ZF5-42 with a BW 1356 transfer case. They are pretty rugged. Just keep em lubed. Hydraulic assist, keep the master cyl. full so the slave don't get air in it.

Turn up the IP, one flat on a hex wrench. to do that there is a diamond shaped plate on the pass side, roll the engine over til you see the nut, turn set screw clockwise one turn. Gives a little more power, gotta do that if you add a turbo anyhow.

Otherwise good luck with it, you got a real powerhouse.

Ohh come on now, the olds diesel engine was a fine engine if properly cared for, and was based on the 350 gasser but it was not a conversion. It pulled my 1500 GMC down the road at 26 mpg. Thats hard to beat.

Thanks for the heads up. I am really looking forward to picking up my new truck!!

I am shocked I didnt get flack for the Diesel Chevette... All right!

Kingpin, Welcome to TDS!
It sounds like you are a kid at Toys R Us, lol...I was really excited to get my F350 too, plus it was purchased brand new by my biological father and my wife had located my half brother so the rest is history and we are still writing it. You will enjoy your 7.3 IDI my friend.

Thanks, JASTECH
