I was interested in Lifting my Truck 6 inches and would put about 35 inch Tires on it. in the rear i would put firestone airbags that would work with the lift. The hitch on the gooseneck trailer is adjustable. I was wondering how the truck would handle under these conditions.

Has anywone done anything like this?

THe trailer it a tandem axle Gooseneck rated at 14,000 pounds with brakes on both axles.

I was wondering if i could do this?

Did it for three years with a 4inch lift and 35's power was good at 70 + but downshifted alot under that.Just removed lift and put 285's, it is a better fit for my new fifthwheel trailer.

I am planing on pulling a Bobcat on a gooseneck with a truck lifted 6 inches. the bobcat and trailer together are 15,000 pounds at least. is this too much for a lifteed truck to handle

6" lift sounds like it's a bit much. Those big sidewalls are gonna squirm around & things may get interesting.
Why not leave the truck alone & get a Jeep to bang around off road?
Mind you, this is the opinion of an old guy, so if the 6" lift is for curb appeal & not off road-ability, then skip the jeep part & haul the bobcat with the GMC.

If you want a tow truck buy a tow truck. If you want a jacked up offroad truck, then stop trying to tow with it.

I never understood destroying the most powerful application of these trucks with big tires and a big lift. And I'm not even old! I'm only 23 lol.

This is what i got. I have a farm out in the country. a 2,500 acher farm to be exact and i live in country that is really rustic and i need a truck to get me to and from the farm and all around the property, i also want to be able to pull my gooseneck trailer to haul all my Equipment around.

I have a F-450 flatbed that is our service truck out here at the farm. it has a gooseneck hitch but is regularly tied up with work. i wanted a vehickle capable of off roadeing (meaning geting around on wet days and being able to get through ditches, ect that you find around this type of land. I also need it to be able to oull my Trailer to

Is a 6 inch lift too big to haul with?

Also does the amount that can be hauled differ than from Stock?

I have seen some really lifted trucks towing 5th wheel trailers. Just drive along Interstate 10 from the 60 to Indio CA and you will see hundreds of lifted F 350s towing their 5th wheel camping trailers. From what it looks like most of them are on 6" lifts with 35" tires. It can be done but you would probably have to do some modifications to the trailer. I would also recommend a triple axle trailer when towing with a lifted truck. Most of the ones I see tow a triple axle trailer.
When towing with a lifted truck the trailer is more prone to swaying.

The only two concerns I would have Evan, is 1) off road tires are uaually not rated to haul heavy loads on the highway. and 2) make sure you still have good clearance between your bed rail, and the trail tongue frame.

I have a 4" lift, with 35 BFG AT tires. It pulls my horse trailers fine, loaded, unloaded, on road, or off road.

The only thing I ran into is when I bought a new gooseneck horse trailer, I learned the hard way about correct clearance when I was making a left turn, and the trailer frame almost ripped off my truck bed. I think there is alot of difference in clearance between equipment trailers, and horse trailers. But....... better to be safe than bedless /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now I have to figure out a way to raise my horse trailer /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

You would be surprised about the load rating of some of the off road tires... my m/t's are rated for 3400 lbs! Not too shabby...

Mine are 10 ply Load range E. Pull a 10k plus FEL with no problems. But I am not one to run any races while towing either.

Hey, Evan my truck is lifted 6.5 inches and I have and do pull my old mud truck around all over the place from south georgia to S.C. and I have not had one bit of problems out of it. My total load is 12,500lbs. These things are made for it. Just look how heavy duty they are. I`ve lifted gas burners up in the air and they turned into straight dogs, but my 7.3 didn`t bat an eye. I hate seeing poeple look at my 250 and say (man you ruined that truck by lifting it, I bet you can`t even pull with it anymore). I just tell`em that I gaurantee if it`ll hook to the hitch I`ll pull it. My tires are ground hawg radials and there rated at 3460lbs a tire. And may i add that I love`em. They ride,and wear like a dream. So my advice is LIFT IT UP!!!

It depends on you lift. I had a bronco with 8" of lift I towed with all the time. I had to sell it to afford my PSD. I had custom springs from a local shop, Sway bars, Dual shocks, good brake controller, Load rated Tires. I found Kelly to have the best stability on my set up. I pulled trailers about 50% of the time. My running buddy at that time had a 4" lifted Powerwagon on 36" Superswampers, put a trailer on it and it was all over the road. When traveling to play we would put the Dodge on a trailer behind my bronco. I also found with my bronco and long trailers say 30' (Travel trailer) or so good sway control is a big plus. That is not to knock Dodge my brother had a 91 power wagon (Cummins) with 6"(Sky jacker lift with some mods) that we would put a gooseneck on and pull Bronco and other powerwagon to play (also on Kelly tires). The most important thing is check out you ride and take it easy, if it feels unstable, it is unstable. Best to get a back road and try out some situations at different speeds and see what your rig does.

PS Check ALL axle and tire weights and do not exceed them. That adds Flex and sway which are both amplified the higher center of gravity.
