I've got the electrical plug off and the 10mm bolt removed. How the heck to I go about pulling the CPS from the block. It appears to be held in place with an O-ring.

I can turn it with the metal bracket...until that fell off. I can get a good grip, but not too much leverage for a good pull. This is the second one that has been installed, but it was done at the dealership while still under warranty, about 100K miles ago.

Any tricks, or is it just brute strength.

Thanks for the time,

Doug

I think you just have to pry it somehow.

Usually a large flat bladed screw driver is all that you need but a long pry-bar with a curved end comes in handy. Typically these sensors are difficult to remove because the o-ring is dry and stuck to the sensor bore. I recommend that before you pry on the sensor or if you realize the sensor is stuck, spray around the sensor with a rust penetrant (WD-40/whatever) With the lubricant freshly applied begin prying on the sensor but only enough to "flex" the o-ring. This works the penetrant/lubricant into the bore, around the sensor and o-ring. Re-apply the penetrant as needed and when it works in past the o-ring the sensor will come right out. It's a patience procedure.

Been awhile in the changing of mine. Used a standard screw driver to help pop it up and out, then used a little new oil on the "O" ring to put the new one in, it only would go in about 80-90% and the bolt took it in the rest of the way if I remember it right.

It was the speed senor on the rear end that was truely the real pain in the you know where.
came out in 5-6 parts.....

I did the pry bar thing gently on the neck of the sensor, then used a long shanked screwdriver around the sides and botton and it popped out.

I put a little oil from the dipstick onto the new O-ring and it poped right in.

The CPS I just removed was a black one that was installed about 5 yrs ago. The new one is gray. I also noticed that the O-ring on the black sensor was a flat one vs. the the round one on the gray sensor.

Now I'm thinking that the problem was not the CPS but the truck being low on engine oil. The dipstick showed me being possibly 3 quarts low. I know what happens if the oil gets too low....the injectors fail to work.

It appears I've got an oil leak somewhere. I've got 5K miles on the last change.

Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll keep the old, black CPS in the truck....just in case.

I have found that if you just wiggle the sensor a little bit back and forth, then it pops right out. A little oil on the O-ring of the new one and it pops right back in.
