Hey guys wanted to get your opinion..

I'm looking to buy a new truck. I found a good dealer here in CA that seems to be straight forward and easy to deal with. He is basically giving me pricing at dealer invoice plus $200. As with any model year there are more incentives to get the 07 model then the 08 model. In your optinion what do you think i should do?

He's ofering me the 07 Lariat Crew Cab SWR at basically $3300 less than the same in and 08 right off the purchase price, plus with the 07 i can either get and $1800 rebate w/ 0% Financing or a $5300 rebate w/5.9% Financing. The 08 would be $3300 more and I would be able to get an $1800 rebate with 5.9% financing. With all the concearns with the new 08 6.4L engine, milage, DPF, regen. Ect... is the extra HP worth the lower milage and higher purchase price of the over the 07?

What do you think?

Main question is a year down the road, are you going to be seeing a 2008 and make the statement "I wish I would have gotten the 08". If so, there is your answer.

If driven entirely by $, then the 2007 or a used truck is the way to go. But then, if you want a new truck, get the 2008. New all the way around.

Personnal choice. I knew I was going to make the statement and wanted the new options in the 2008 such as navigation and overhead DVD.

Moneywise, the 07's are a great truck now at a great price. Get your own financing at your credit union and take all the rebates. Be very careful, don't let the salesman or the F&I guy steal your rebates by packing the price. I usually have them work the price sans the rebates, Ford will mail the rebates directly to you. If you buy a '07, DO NOT look in, climb in, sit in, drive a '08. You will be kicking yourself to death. The "I could have had a V8" syndrom.

I would get an '08, I don't think you will be disappointed, even if you do have some slight issues with the DPF and such. I have been totally impressed with my new truck. There are just too many new luxury features with the '08 that make it worth it.

By the way, there is a dealer here in Utah that will sell all trucks at straight invoice, plus you keep all rebates, which I think are at $1,300 for '08's. This guy would even drop ship to your state. His name is Steve Kersey 801-952-4277, its worth a call to him.

Don’t forget about the year of depreciation that you are paying for when buying an '07. The reason it is cheaper is that it has sat around for year and is "worth" much less. If you tried to sell that '07 a year from now it would be a "two" year-old truck, while in the same amount of time the '08 would only be a one year old truck.

It is also not the best idea to buy the last model year before a style change (looks dated to buyers very quickly).

So in the end, if you are going to keep the truck 'till she stops ruing (10+ years) then i would go with the '07. If you are going to maybe sell the truck in 2-5 years, then in the long run you will make that 3k back when you go to sell, and you will have a "cooler" truck the whole time...

I think it will take me more than a year to get used to the '08 front end. So, I'd be safe with the '07. But, styling is obviously subjective -- to each their own. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've never encountered this, and my family has gone through a bunch of vehicles. Here's why...

No matter what truck I took delivery of today, I'd end up putting on 32-34K miles each calendar year. Let's say that in two years, I go to sell or trade the truck. That would be in May-2009, and I'd have roughly 65K miles on it. If I have the '07 truck, that's two years at 65K miles, or an average of 32.5K miles per year. However, it looks like the '08 truck has accumulated all of those miles in one year. Both will be considered "high mileage," but everything else being equal, I'll get dinged harder on the value of the '08 since it's "only a year old" and it racked up 65K miles vs. a "two year old" truck that only averaged 30K+ miles per year.

At least, that's the way it seems to be viewed around here. The "miles per year" is a bigger factor in determining the value of a used vehicle than if there's a model year difference between them.

Don't forget the opposite can be said for buying an 08 in early 07.
Depending on how much you drive, you could have 15K on the truck before you even get to 08. You could suffer the same depreciation at the end of 08.

One nice thing when it comes to selling an '08, the "book" or price guide will not be available till later next year, so banks will continue to loan sticker value for the truck, since it will not be in the book yet. This issue caught up to me on my last '06 I was trying to sell, I wanted close to 38k and the bank would only loan around 36k because of the booked value, meaning if I wanted to get that full amount, the buyer would have to have cash down, and most dont anymore..
