Can anybody tell me which GM or Ford diesel engines were purpose built diesels, and which are gasoline conversions. I am looking to buy a used diesel truck this year, and want to avoid a gas conversion as I hear they can not handle the high compression ratios of a true diesel. If anybody is able to help, please type away. Also, please tell me if any Ford or GM truck models contain diesel engines made by diesel manufacturers like Cummings.

None of the modern diesel engines are converted gas engines. That ended in the 80's.

Ford's diesel engines were designed and manufactured by Navistar/International until 2011 when Ford released their own engine.

GM's Duramax is a joint venture with Isuzu.

Dodge's diesel is a Cummins. No Cummings.
