i am trying to fix a definate miss, previous owner took to a dealer and told him 1 & 4 injectors are bad , so i bought 2 remans, when i went to change them # 4 had the push rod barely catching edge of rocker, i took it out its not bent, so i put it back in, why did it fall off rocker, oh ya motor still misses, not as bad no you can a least drive the truck, it is supposed to have AB series injectors, but there are ab, ad & #8 is a ae, i think i am just going to replace the other 6 injectors so i can rule out them as the cause of the miss, but what do i do about the push rod, was it maybe over rev'd due to a pissed driver that it wont run

Instead of spending a crap load of money on new injectors, which probably aren't bad anyways I would start by replacing the valve cover harnesses first.

Did the injector with AD or AE on it happen to be in the same hole as the popped out push rod?

was a AD injector in #4 cylinder that popped the pushrod, the AE is in the #8 cylinder which is also marked LL and has the blue plug, which is correct if it where a newer truck, should have mentioned the harness and glow plugs where done first by previous owner to try and solve problem

I remember a thread somewhere. Where or who escapes me at the moment, but he pulled all the pushrods to check if any were bent and one was shorter than the rest. The comment was that it looked as if one end was slightly mushroomed, causing it to be shorter. He only replaced the one short pushrod.

If you remove the rocker arm it can be further taken apart. There is a clip cover on the center/fulcrum section of the rocker assembly. Underneath this cover is a ball that serves as the fulcrum. I would inspect the ball for failure/wear. Be careful not to lose the ball while taking the rocker apart.

well its not fixed, as a refresher, i changed the two injectors the dealer said where bad, previous owner already tried new uvc harnesses, made better but still missed and would not come around , so i replaced the other six injectors , new gaskets and harnesses , push rod was still where its supposed to be when i did the rest of the injectors, got it started and great it seems fixed, a little ruff at idle but assuming air in system still, changed the oil to 5w-40 syn rotela, took it on a 4 hour round trip , still seemed little ruff idle but smooths rite out off idle, oh and to my surprize 19 mpg mostly 65-75 mph

But next morning go to start definate dead miss on one, let it warm up 5min and start driving, misses as boost builds on moderate acceleration you can hear clean out and runs fine, (motor up to temp) still little ruff at idle but good to go

next morning guess what same thing , i did try to use temp gun to check exhaust manifold temps 6 & 8 seen noticable colder , thats was in the morning when its missing

possible low compression on one or two cylinders, motor dont smoke that i see, tail pipe does look alittle wet oily , with out taking it to a dealer where or what should i look at next, really think going to do a compression test just to rule it out

They are NON adjustable.

The harness x2 were replaced, but what about the valve cover gaskets themselves. I have seen those melt before.

Any way you can borrow a buddies IDM and swap them real quick? If you end up going the IDM route buy it from eBay. Super cheap on there compared to Ford.

Not sure why the push rod came out, other than maybe when an injector was replaced it wasn't reinserted properly. That could be a real bad thing! Look over that harness real good including the top side. If you pull valve covers again I would do a compression test.

little balls

The little balls under your rockers will be flattened.

They are easy to replace and will solve your pushrod problem.

They should be perfectly round.

Or don't bother to check and keep having problems

Good Luck

while you are at it , May want to look closely at the rocker itself . Be sure it is not bent or cracked
