Hi Guys. I had the local mechanics shop install the gauges (mistake) they put the pyro on the down pipe near the bottom of the tranny. What temp should I not exceed with the pyro placed there? I have to go on a 600mi trip this weekend (towing ~ 2500lbs). I will get it fixed when I get back.

at the bottom of the DP will have temps off of what they actually are at the turbo (which is why you have a EGT gauge)... I'd be careful till you get the probe moved

Hey I hate to tell you this but with the Probe in that location the Guage is about useless,it is to far away from where You need the readings,It sounds like they thaught it was like a o2 sensor.
Run up to your local muffler shop and have them weld the hole up and install a threaded bung on the up pipe just past the manifold doughnut (NOT MIDAS OR MIENEKY)Just a good old muffler shop Should Run You about 50$ or so, then You can control the EGT'S for shure and not be Guessing.
It's IMPORTANT WHEN TOWING.

Hope this helps

You've probably already figured out nobody knows the answer. If you drive it with the probe where it is, be sure and let us know what temps you see under various conditions. I don't know what good the info will be but I'm always curious about this kind of stuff.

Nobody knows with it post- turbo, and especially with it that far away from the turbo. If it were a "normal" post-turbo mounting at the top of the downpipe near the turbo, then I'd say use 850 as your red line until you can get it moved to the other side of the turbo.

If it were me, I'd use 800 as the red line until I could get the thermocouple moved to the up pipe or exhaust manifold. Towing that light of a trailer, the only time you should see over about 700 is if you go balls-out up a mountain pass.
