Question about Oil Additives,I Baught My 99 7.3 F-350 From a Dealer and They Have this Deal with Duralube That If I Have My Oil Changed at a Place Like the Dealer or a Jiffylube or some where and have Duralube Put in,That there is a 100k mile engine waranty on all Lubricated Parts in the Engine,As long as I have Documentation That It was Added,
My Question is, Is Duralube Compatable In Our Trucks? Is it Any GOOD?

I have used Duralube in gassers and credit it with saving an engine when an oil change place failed to put oil back into the engine after the change. My wife was driving it and drove the car home from the oil change place with no oil. I filled the engine with oil and drove it for several more years with no issues.

However, I just recently changed the oil in my PSD and added Duralube to the oil change (I use Rotella 15w-40 oil). From first start up the truck ran terribly. Engine noise went way up. I drove it to work a couple of days hoping it was just due to the oil change, I've heard some here say that their trucks take a while to settle down after an oil change. It did not, so I changed the oil again and left out the Duralube this time. The truck went back to running fine, immediately. The only thing I could think of is that the Duralube may not have tolerated being put under the high pressure of the HPOP, maybe foaming or something, but I would certainly warn against using it.

Duralube, chemically, looks a lot like Conoco "Germ Treated" motor oil circa 1920.

Think, just maybe, that lubrication technology has changed quite a bit in the ensuing 86 years? Hmmm? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Next time you see a Duralube late-night informercial with the Chrysler slant-six engine on a stand that they drain and run and hit with a fire hose and all that, look for the small gray hose that goes from the side of the engine (near the oil filter) to the closed "box" on the trailer. That's an oil feed line.

Just Say "No!" to snake oils.

you don't need any oil additives....
When did you buy your 99 truck?? If you've bought a used truck from a ford dealer, usually (sometimes??) the dealer will "give" you a conditional warrenty. The PSD has a 100k/5yr warrenty which your 99 is way past but if you've just gotten it then maybe the dealer is offering you an extended warrenty??? I would not put the additive in to take advantage of this type of "deal". Sounds like the dealer doesn't know much about Diesels??!!!

Having worked in refineries for over 27 years, I have a little input on this type of question.
I asked a lot of chemical engineers and chemists about this "additive" thing. They ALL answered the same exact thing. The major companies manufacture the very best lubricants, with the very best additive packages that are known to be beneficial. ANY additive one adds to one's oil is not only a waste of money, but can dilute the additives that are already in the oil, such as dispersants, detergents, other lube agents, and such. Some additives are very "slick", but are Chlorine based, and degenerate into a corrosive mixture in the crankcase.

NOT that you haven't been served the straight skinny just now.
