Phil,
I noticed you closed the thread on Amsoil on 4/16/00. I understand that it was indeed in the wrong forum. However, you said to do a search and that too much had already been discussed on the product. I use Amsoil, it works for me. In my opinion it is not an administrators job to say we shouldn't talk about this product 'cuss I don't use it or what ever. I understand that some Amsoil salesman are pushy and arrogant....this does not degrade the product. Just my opinion, no ill feelings intended.

P.S. I'm an Amsoil dealer, but I don't peddle my products. If someone wants some from me I'll sell it, but I don't go around chasing ambulances.

I feel that I have a semi-unique opinion on amsoil. I like the idea, and if I had time (and money) I'd set up some of my vehicles with it. I'm not an amsoil basher. (Just to get that out of the way)

I'm pretty sure that I did not come across as an anti-amsoil person, at least I hope not...

Anyways, I seriously doubt that anything anyone wants to know about amsoil has not been discussed less than 3 times on this website. I, as a moderator, have been trying to point common question people to search, because there is a wealth of information already in the site. I personally know of amsoil threads.

I, for one (of many...) grow weary of the amsoil topic. I suppose a small thread every now and again is alright, but it does belong in the other forum, and it shoudl probably have a "search for the topic" suggestion somewhere in it.

No Ill feelings taken, and Thank you for bringing this up.

Anyone else have an opinion? (I'd appreciate another moderator or Jason's opinion... I;ll Change my practice if they think it would make the site better off...)

Phil,
Thanks for the quick response. I understand that there is a ton of info on the site and that duplicate info takes up a lot of space. I just couldn't tell what angle you were approaching the topic from. I guess I get sensitive about the topic sometimes.
Anyway, sorry I misunderstood. For what it worth, I think everyone is doing a great job of keeping this site fun, interesting and professional.

Jerry

Amsoil is a product. It's for sale. Apparently some folks make money selling it. Fine. Sell it somewhere else, not here. Or else negotiate a business deal with the WebMaster and write a big check to become an official sponsor of www.ford-diesel.com.

It's o.k. to state "I think Amsoil is a great product!" It is not o.k. to say, for example, "See my sig for a way to buy Amsoil at a good price!"

If you state your opinion that Amsoil is good or bad, I'll support your right to say that. If you try to sell it on any of the forums I monitor, I'll come down on you like a JuneBug on a cow patty. [Sorry JuneBug, but you chose the name!

I sure learned a lot when the Amsoil and Lubrication Engineers guys took the field. "When the elephants dance, the grass is trampled" - old Indian proverb. I would not like to think that just because the ground is already well-plowed that another furrow can't be started - might go off in a new direction and I could learn something! About the only thing it takes up is hard disk space, and that is pretty cheap. And I can always just not read if I get tired of it all.

Now, selling is a different subject...

I'd have to agree with Kevin--just because a topic has been hashed out a million times before, is no reason to close a thread.
Fact is, new members are joining this site on a daily basis, and with them comes new opinions, and yes, new questions on old topics.
I search this site routinely when i have a question, but i also like fresh opinions, and sometimes post a question on something covered in the past. it really pisses me off when someone jumps in and smugly suggests that i just do a search.
As for selling, that too is a fine line. I recommend the services of many companies and products on a regular basis--some sponsers of this site, some not. I also ask for recommendations as well. That is the power of the internet.
Amsoil is a product that is pertinent to our vehicles. Some folks swear by it as the best thing ever for their trucks, while others don't. I figure, if a member of this site wants to help folks get more info on the product, then he does that member a service.
Now if i start listing all the wonderful things i have here at my fine Antique store--then I could see folks taking offense.
By the way, right now i have...oh, hell, just go to my web-site: www.rt66treasures.com.

P:S: I think it is fine if someone puts in their website. That way if one wants to visit it's their choice, not a forced comerical.

Another reason is that, if you do a search, you will see that most of these oil debates end up getting heated and get out of control. They tend to degrade to silliness then go to abusive. They usually end up locked down anyway. I watch them very closely and when I believe they are ripe I pluck them and place on the appropriate lock.

The idle control unit is an official Ford Factory option. It's available from any Ford dealer's parts department. The list price from the parts department is $608. I talked Louder into selling them to members of ford-diesel.com for a deep-discount price of $325 as a service to our members. Many members appreciate the source.

Any Ford dealer that's willing to sell us Ford parts at deep-discount prices will get my blessing and I'll mention them as a source when responding to questions from the members.

BTW, I don't make a penny when Louder sells a truck or an idle control unit or any other parts or services to members of ford-diesel.com.
