Any tips on removing that clip on the wastegate rod? I don't want to remove the turbo, so I'm trying to reach back there.

Also any tips on reinstalling that clip?

Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif

Yes.

The first thing you do is get yourself half a dozen spare E-rings, because they are widely-known to depart for parts unknown at warp speed when anyone attempts to install them on a PSD turbo wastegate lever pin. This particular chore is so confounding that several people have bitten their tongues off trying to hold their mouth just right! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

You'd stand a better chance for success at scaling Mount Everest in a chicken suit and swim fins than re-installing that E-ring on your first attempt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Alternately, consider going to an easier-to-install retaining device such as a C-ring or Hairpin Clip. I don't know what size you need, but you can see representatives of the type at McMaster-Carr. Type the following part numbers into the "Find" box on the left side: 98555A120, 98395A218.

For removal, you'll want a right angle pick.

I had to squeeze my big _ss up under that hood with a little inspection mirror and a good light and figured out exactly what it looked like and where it was. I then had to remove my arm to reach up there several times with a small thin flat blade screw driver. I ended up prying it off of there with that little flat blade and was quite happy when I heard it launch somewhere down in the firewall since I had a pack of the much easier Napa circular linkage clips /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif Seriously, it is just a tough spot to get to...some are better and smaller than others and get it the first or second time...don't worry though it is easy to figure out just hard to access. Good luck to you!

I got it finally!!! Managed to get it popped off and even put the clip back on the first try. Got the Banks Big Head installed, and also put a set of Bilstein 5100's. Time for a test drive!

What preload did you use on the Big Head... and what did you do to stretch it back across to get it onto the wastegate (just tug it, or did you use compressed air)?

Tugged it for now. My ATS housing is on backorder, so once that thing gets here then I'll preload it tighter. Didn't really take long to swap it out. Took me longer to replace the shocks, I lost my breaker bar and one bolt wasn't too friendly.

Once you get the ATS housing on and go to reconnect the Big Head... get it so that it just slips over the wastegate without having to stretch it, then take it off and turn the rod IN/shorter by six full turns, and then reattach. After doing that I tried and tried put couldn't get any leverage in that small space to pull it by hand, so I hooked up the air compressor and zip, the rod shot right over and I dropped it down. Should've taken that suggestion I'd read on the forums in the first place and not struggled with it for so long first. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
