I've got a new issue with my truck. I've got a random stall that only happens at idle. Yet it always starts back up. Never happens under load. There was one day it stalled 2-3 times that day. Then there have been times it doesn't stall for weeks. When it first started stalling my first thought was CPS. So I have a new CPS in and it still does it.

So my few thoughts are that maybe the new CPS is bad. Has anyone ever had that experience?

My other thought is maybe I need to replace the CPS plug/connector...again. I soldered it onto the circuit and did my best to protect the wiring about 50,000 miles ago.

What else would lend itself to this random stalling condition? While I'm working on it this winter I may just inspect all the wiring under the hood.

What brand CPS did you use? Almost all the parts store variety are bad right out of the box. Seems only the International brand or Ford repackaged International brand works reliably.

I only buy my CPS from our local I-H dealer. I've had it for 3-4 years in my center console. Always carry a spare. I guess it's time to go get another spare. Maybe I should buy 2 and swap the current one out again?

Check the ICP sensor for oil protrusion.
Thanks RT!!! I checked the ICP and there was oil in the connector. I had a good spare sitting around so I replaced it. I'll keep monitoring it and let you know for sure. But my guess is, since that was your second choice, that that was the problem.

Thanks, again!

You might also check to be sure the IPR coil nut is still there and snug. That could possibly cause a stall at idle, but there's a good chance that leaky ICP sensor was the culprit.

RT/KLHansen, Looks like the ICP was the culprit. I really appreciate your help getting this sorted out.
