Hi all,

I've read and read and then read some more about tranies on this site and finally decided to post my own problem since I'm still really confused. Please forgive me for my ignorance and lack of understanding.

I have a 2001 Platinum Edition with a 3/01 build date. Just recently, after driving home from work, I stopped at the store and after backing out of my parking space put it in drive. No response. Went back to park, back to drive then it was delayed into drive. Took it to Ford and they did a trans flush and said "that would fix it". It has started to occur more often now but mostly after I have driven it some. Usually does fine first thing in the morning and goes right into drive, no problem, no delay. Drives and shifts fine once in drive. When it delays, I can pull it down into 1st and it catches then back to drive and works fine. Reverse is fine.

Any thoughts on my problem and/or any suggestions for a solution.

Again, sorry to be a trans retard,

If it's still under warranty, I'd take it to a Ford dealer that has a reputable Diesel Truck service department and have them check it out. Better to have a tranny fixed and/or replaced under warranty than to get stuck with it a few months after expiration. Also, at least they will have on record that you have brought it in several times for the same problem...if it was within a few months since the last time, they shouldn't charge you anything if the problem wasn't fixed (meaning if you had to pay the $50 deductible or whatever the extended drivetrain fee is).

Forgot to add, have 94k on it right now.

Reverse is fine and when it delays, I can pull it to 1st and it will engage fine. Then I put it back up in drive and does fine from there.

the first gear band is having problems ingaging. may be a little loose. does it do it in reverse to.

Brilliant! Except that there is no first gear band. There is a forward clutch that engages to produce first gear. Clutches are not adjustable, they either work or they don't.

You may have a bad electronic pressure control solenoid (EPC), low trans fluid, the internal filter could be loose, or the forward clutch could be going. It might also be the overdrive one way clutch, but those usually fail and that's the end of them. I have not seen one that is intermittent.

[/ QUOTE ]Tranny is only covered under the BTB 3/36 Kmile warranty. Unless you have and extended powertrain warranty, it is not covered. Casey_1 is extremely knowledgeable about these trannies. Listen to him.

Thanks for the input. I'm gonna drop the pan and check the filter first. If it is a problem with the EPC or the clutches what's the easiest fix. I'm sure a rebuild is in store for the clutches, but is the EPC something I can get to easy when checking the filter?

Thanks in advance,

Transmission Range sensor (TRS.) It is the sensor on the driver's side of the transmission where the shifter cable attaches. There is a wiring bundle that plugs into it. It tells the computer which position the shifter is in.

Mine also has started not going when in reverse. Only when warmed up, never first start of the day. I put it in reverse, and nothing happens. If I give it the gas, it then jumps "into gear". If I put it in drive, then reverse, it works fine. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif 80,000 miles on the truck, tranny replaced at 36K, so actually 44K on this tranny. Magnafine filter installed by dealer.

No final word yet. Gonna drop the pan and replace the filter tonight to see if that helps things at all. Have no idea what the next step will be if that doesn't help.

Well, dropped the pan and replaced the filter tonight. Nothing major in the pan that I could find. Replaced the filter and put her all back together. Doing fine so far after test drive, drive to work and drive out to lunch. Guess we'll see how things go from here.

Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions.
