Bought my 06 F250 2 years ago. Did the del stuff to the motor and it runs great:ford:, but I am on my 3rd set of rear axel seals and dont know why. The dealer ship has replace them twice. A compatent mechanic friend has replaced them and now they are leaking again. They leak on the break rotor and smoke and stink to high heaven. I checked the vent this weekend and it seems to be fine. Any other suggestions? Bought it used with 100,000 mi on it. I seem to get about 5000 mi out of a set of seals. Funny thing is it might leak this trip and not the next time I drive it. Doesnt matter is it towing or not. Whats my next move.
The mechanic friend that recently replaced them, packed the bearings, and replaced the rear brakes last Oct. He said every thing inside looked good. Whats my next move:read:, hubs, axel housing, spindels?????

Here is what you need to do: locate the vent tube on your rear axle. Follow it up to where it's clipped on the frame, remove the rubber tube and make sure it is not blocked, unscrew the steel fitting the rubber tube pushes on to, and drill the hole in it to 1/8". With a clear vent tube, and an 1/8" vent hole your seals will no longer leak, the problem is the rear is building up pressure due to heat and the vent isn't properly relieving it, I've run into this every now and then over the years, my "cure" will fix it for sure.

I had exactly the same issue about a year ago. I replaced the vent and about 7 wheel seals between the 2 sides. It turns out that the backing plates that hold the parking brake shoes were starting to rot out around where the pins come through from the back to retain the shoes. It was slowly dropping little pieces of rust onto the spindle, and I didn't notice it until the parking brake didn't work anymore and the pins pulled all the way through. I know your mechanic said everything looked alright inside, but its worth another look. You can get a good view by crawling under there and looking at the back of the plate, and you should see 2 little pin heads, one on either side of the axle tube. Good Luck!
