Shafts are easy to get out, however, setting up a ring and pinion is not easy! I have always shyed aware from rearend work.

Yea my dad is the best man I have ever known, he gave me an extra car they had and told me not to worry about we would get it fixed together.
But I dont know what would cause those gears to break, they seemed loose, like when they got to the top they would fall down into the side gear instead of just roll. Worn cross shaft, severely worn spider gears????

Did he let you borrow that Custom Chevy Wagon? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sorry to hear about all your bad luck! I guess sometimes when it rains, it pours. I don't know if it would be cheaper, but have you called any junkyards to check on rear-ends? Here's a pretty good website for searching local junkyards:

Car Part.Com

You can select your area, and it will search local places and give you the prices.

Hope you get it worked out for a reasonable amount!

Check out the June '05 issue of Four Wheeler. It has an article on the Sterling 10.25" and 10.5" axles. They show a 3 gear spider gear assembly that is a possible option to install. Not sure if 10.5" parts are needed for the install or what but there is all kinds of good info on these axles in there.

Why do I have to have a 1995 and newer, every interchange computer and book says that I could put an 87-97 in.
Went to junkyard today looked at a 97 next to a 93 I was thinking of buying. I cant see one difference inside or out. ABS on both, shock/spring mounts same, same brakes, same castings
what is the difference?

june,05 four wheeler mag. "shorter spline length on the pinion gears"
yoke tends to loosen, causing seal to leak, ring & pinion to wear faster.remember psd's have more torque that the idi,bb,sb engines that were in the earlier trucks.

If there isn't a big difference in price I'd opt for the LS. I'd also get a new clutch pack for it and get it in there before you put the axle under the truck.
