Having my rear end checked on Labor day. ABS light has been on since I bought it in June and around 70 and above speedometer goes nuts. Have changed out the VSS, RPM sensor and the TPS so far (too damn many sensors IMO). Having it checked for metal shavings, broken parts and damaged tone ring. If the rear is on its way out probably will when I can afford it change from 4:10 gears to 3:55 gears since only getting about 9.5 mpg at best. Since the tone ring is part of the pinion carrier would it be easier to get a used one other than spending the big bucks to have it rebuilt? 1994 F350 quad cab dually long bed.

I have a set of 3:55 pinion and ring gear set if you need them PM me for price. The ABS light could be the ABS modulator had to replace mine a few years back.

Keep in mind that there will be some fine metal particles there due to the fact that there are metal gears rubbing together. No matter how much lubrication there is, there alwys is some wear. Don't let some one sell you a rebuild based on some fine particles.

The rear end had some metal shaving but nothing broken or bent. They cleaned it out, put the plate back on and refilled it. $150.00 (ouch) and I supplied the gear oil and the RTV. ABS light still on and speedometer still crazy (bouncing) at 65 and above. The prior owner said they Jerri-rigged the ABS but didn't say how or who did it. Does have I trailer braking unit on it. Bluefishbeagle will stick with what I got for now. The ABS modulator is that the big funny looking thing to the right of the brake petal. May add a Slicer behind the tranny to get additional overdrive.

When I changed my VSS, I continued to have a code that pointed to it. I decided to replace the pigtail and found the copper in one of the wires was as black as coal. I had to cut back about a foot before I found clean copper. No problems since.
