Lets assume the parking brake isn't on ......

Unfortunately they can rust on pretty tight. You've already got the best lube for the job. Sometimes hitting the rotor between the studs with a ball peen hammer can break the rust bond, but put the lug nuts on a few threads so if the hammer gets a little wild you don't damage the stud threads.

Unfortunately if that doesn't do it your left with hitting the back of the rotor with a hammer to knock it off. Here you want a flat face and rotate the rotor with each hit so you're working the rotor off and not ****ing it in place. If it's free of the bond, then the rust ridge to the parking brake shoes can hold it up as well. I've been able to rotate the rotor and thread it off of the shoes when that happens.

The parking brake was never on and you can't hit the back side because of the dust shield, so I guess I will just keep beating the crap out of it until it comes loose.
There should be a spot to hit the back of the rotor if you pulled the calipers off. If you haven't pulled the calipers off, then you should do that first.


Like Jack said: Hit - rotate - hit - rotate, etc. They'll come off.

Yeah, kind of hard to remove the rotors with the calipers and brackets on ....:thumbsup:

I used my air hammer. All the vibration sped up the removal process.

On my 4th Ford f-350 ... every single one I get a big mall out and beat the H out of them. Who cares if I wreck them ... they are coming off to put new ones on anyway. They do come off hard!

One of the things you can do to try to prevent this in the future is to first clear off the rust on the hub pilot where the rotor will sit. I do this with a Dremel tool with a wire brush in it's chuck. Then I coat the area with wheel bearing grease before installing the rotor.

I have had to use a 3 jaw puller to remove rotos before. Since I haven't had to do the brakes on my F-250 yet, I can't tell youif its safe to do this on the center of the hub, but on a 02 Grand Prix I put a big socket on the hub for the center threaded pin to rotate on. Then, pop... it came off pretty easily.

This was after PB Blaster and hammers BTW
