Okay so I changed my oil from brand X to a better oil Y. Truck ran a little rough and showed some injector stiction with brand X and HSS. So its time for brand Y and I added some REV-X to help out with stiction. Well now the stiction is way worse, wont' hardly move until the EOT is around 120 degrees, and before would move any time.

Insight shows FICM voltage at 48v always and i checked the ICP pressure and it looks good. So what gives? Both oils are full synthetic, 5w40, use OEM filters, BYPASS filters, etc.. didn't change anything else. Also thinking it may be my tune I've put the truck back to stock and it runs worse than ever before.

So without revealing name brands I'd like to know your advice...

Should I drain out $150 worth of oil and put brand X back in there? I'm kind of frustrated now hoping for better results from the supposed better brand Y.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Starts great, usually within 2 seconds. Doesn't throw any codes... idles fine, just won't go when u give a little fuel until it gets around 100-120 eot. Or for that matter giving it fuel at idle it shakes like crazy.

Brand Y oil. After searching for days for an answer I finally found a thread over on the nation with exactly the same problem I have. Sucks paid good money for that oil and it runs like chit on it till its warm. Just bought 5 gallon of rotella t6 to put back in her. Lesson learned stick with what works.

PS.. I used shaeffers 9000 5w40 full sythetic as brand Y, not as good as I'd hoped.

From all the info I've read the Shaeffers 9000 is rated very well with other diesel brand owners and on the BTOG forum. I used the T6 recently and see no reason so far to change but I haven't tested it yet in real hot weather towing. I did notice a slight drop in EOT's (5* to 8*) and better cold weather starts. Time will tell though.

I towed with T6 all last summer with no issues or breakdown before 5k miles. I got a good deal on the shaeffers.. not very good now!

Just out of curiosity, why 5 gallons instead of 4 with 1 qt. left over? Do you have extra oil capacity?

I'm just about to install a Bullet Proof Diesel oil cooler and I'm wondering how much that will add to my oil capacity. I gotta figure it'll hold 1-2 qts. anyway.

I just buy and extra gallon every time I have some left over. I hold about an extra quart or so with the bypass system on mine.

I've been using T5 since my first oil change and I've had two oil changes analyzed by Blackstone Labs with very good reports. The Rotella T oil is awesome and I will always use it.

I've towed a couple of times on this oil and it didn't show any breakdown but I down tow things all the time either.

Hi, I'm new here, but I've been lurking in the shadows for along time. I've got the same problem as Worldwide73. Truck bad when cold, changed oil yesterday (Rotella T6) and now runs alot worse cold, but seems to run beter and smoother after iwarms up. Whats the solution I missed it?
