I am now living in Mexico with my 2000 PSD. Needless to say, the repair options are limited, even at the Ford dealership, as owning a diesel vehicle and being a Mexican national is not easy. But since I am a foreigner from the USA, I just keep my truck registered in the US.

I would like to purchase a code reader that will work on my diesel truck as well as my 2005 Wrangler. The Wrangler is probably no problem; most any will read it. But in doing some preliminary research on the 'net, some of the more popular readers will not read diesels.

It needs to be a unit that I can ship to a US address.

Any recommendations? I'd like to spend no more than about 150.00.

That's dollars............not pesos.:jester:

I would like to recommend autoenginuity, which can be purchased from ITP diesel. It is excellent and will work on both vehicles. You will need the "Ford Bundle" for the powerstroke. It may cost more, but it does seem to be worth it. It will run off of your laptop. So if you have no laptop, then forget this recommendation.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looks good. THANK GOD IT HAS USB INTERFACE; I AM SICK AND TIRED OF BUYING ADAPTOR CABLES/DRIVERS FOR SERIAL PORT DEVICES as my laptop doesnt have a serial port.

Pretty pricey, though. With the upgrade, I'd be looking at about 450.00.

Any other suggestions????

Yup- AE.

You may be able to find a code reader that will do a half-ass job for a little less cash- but, given your location, I'd recommend biting the bullet and getting the right tool for the task required.

It'll read both vehicles, and do things that standard code readers won't do (key tests, buzz tests, cyl contribution test, etc) as well as real time data. Save you $$$ in trouble shooting and replacing parts, too.

AE does soo much more than "Read Codes" If you plan on working on your own PSD it is well worth the money. IT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF,, I guarantee that.

Best money I have ever spent. I have had it since it was a BETA program. Got it at version 2.5 or something like that. Now it's better than ever....

DASHDAQ - Drew Technologies

You really need to check this widget out - won a best in class award at SEMA - I use i on my 7.3L, wife's minivan, and a Tahoe. Code reading and resetiing are just the tip - this thing reads all the data off your OBDII port, and then has nifty gauges/data boxes to display. The 2002 7.3L code base has 28 paramters, like manifold guage pressure, exhaust backpressure, fuel pressure, transmission slip, transmission and oil temperature and lots more. You can load your vedhicels weight in it and it will calculate horespower and torque from acceleration, it can data log (with and SD card) so you can see what % of the time on a trip your were wi 90% throttle and 35 PSI exhaust backpressure, for example.

Check it out: DashDAQ Series II from Drew Technologies

AE does all that too, you can monitor something like 9 or 12 different signals at once, from ICP, to Pulse width on the injector, TC % lock. Crap, I can't BEGIN to tell all. It reads air bag codes, anti lock brake codes, ,,,,,,, and does the Buzz test, KOEO, KOER, GP test, you can burn PATS keys, Data log into an XL format,,,,,

I may be more able to tell you what it can't do,,,,,,,,,,,,

ummmm,, well you can't burn a chip with it, or change PCM parameters,,,

Yup!

As the gut is living in ol' Mexico, having the right tool for the job just makes sense. The other readers are not capable of the level of diagnostics that AE is.....
