If it goes into regen then it is working properly. That should not fail it.

I would think for the first couple years it would be a plug in test. Well maybe not for Cali but every where else.

Smog test in Nv. & I think some other states do same way..Nv. test reqd. on new veh. after 2 yrs.

Vin# entered..sniffer in tpipe for particulates..rear wheels on dyno..e. reved up for few minutes. Visual for OEM emission controls..cat/egr. Just did mine = $37.

I asked tech. on particulates..said he's tested many chipped/modded..some just plain burning oil..said exhaust would have to look like old wood burning locomotive before failing. Some he's done smoked quiet abit, but passed. Tec. didnt know anything about 6.4L.

Gas..depending on year, but my 98 Buick gets checked by plugging in (obd) However..if CEL on, said couldnt do test until it was determined why CEL on. Sometime ago..sniffer was used..I liked that test cause print out actually showed % emissions being emitted..also indication how e. been running etc. Seems plug in is kinda a phony test? JMO!

If your flash is up to date, stationary regeneration should be disabled.

Regeneration is a normal process. It's not an indication that something is wrong with your emissions system. Therefore, you will not fail if it kicks in to regeneration while stationary (but as others have pointed out, the newest flashes prevent this from happening). It should be noted that it's primarily a matter of safety.

Now, if you're in CONSTANT regeneration, then that MIGHT be an indication that something's wrong.

In California, I've read that it will be a plug-in test combined with a VISUAL smoke test and an inspection for unauthorized (read: non-CARB approved modifications).

Regen and Emissions

Test is not only done at idle it is also done at a steady speed, 55 mph if my memory is correct. Most of the gas station jockeys or state employees I think would say "You Failed" take it up with the state.

New York does tailpipe starting the first year. No plug in to the OBD as of yet. Gas vehicles get a 2 model year pass on the emmissions test but not the diesels.
