Ok...I actually just watched my gas drop a quarter tank in 20 minutes on Regen. This is really making me a little upset. My truck goes into Regen every fill-up. Is this normal? I know its supposed to Regen every 400-700 miles but every time I fill up? Come on now! I do about 20 minutes of freeway driving a day and about 20 on side roads. This Regen crap sounds like a way to give the oil companies more money.

Wow 100 miles is way worse than mine! Anyone know what our mileage goes down to during a Regen? And....if I were to regear it would it make it better? I know my truck cruises at around 2000 rpm's at 65.

I have a regen about every 180 miles. I have also noticed +1/8 of a tank of fuel loss during regen. I have seen 1.5 mpg reduction in fuel mileage every time it regens based on what the computer tells me. This is mostly based on highway driving.

Mine seems to be in regen almost all the time. I have it in for the Flash so I'll be able to see the indicator light. It is very annoying!

Shooters,
I had the latest reflash done on mine about a month or so ago and my truck also goes into regen about every 130-160 miles. What I have noticed is that the regens occur more frequently but don't last as long and don't put out nearly as much white smoke as before. Before the latest flash I was regening about every 250-300 miles but it would stay in regen mode for about 25 miles and I would notice a big cloud of white smoke when it first went into regen. Now it stays in regen for about 11-12 miles and if there is any white smoke, it only lasts for a few seconds right at the beginning of the regen.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the DPF sensors. I think Ford came up with a reflash that would put the engine in regen sooner therefore creating less (or none at all) smoke by not allowing as much soot to buildup on the DPF. Just my take on it but wanted to let you know that you are not alone in what you are experiencing. By the way, I drive anywhere from 150-350 miles a day so I am seeing a regen just about everyday. With the Edge Juice and the frequent regens I am still seeing on average 15-15.5 mpg and that's with BFG AT 305s.

I know the guys in CA shouldn't have to worry about this, but how careful are the others about making sure the truck is burning ULSD & not LSD? How about additives for cetane boost? Any one burning biodiesel having the frequent regen problems??

driving

driving habits can make a diffirents. But the main thing is the 6.4 powerstroke was made to be worked so using the truck to go get food, pickup the kids, and cruising around town kills the fuel milage and loads the dpf up. if you have to running around town you might try putting the truck in tow/hual mode this might help to keep the truck from regening as much high RPMs is not a bad thing.

I also own a "DRIVE TO CLEAN FILTER" truck as well. I can say I wish I had my 7.3 back.
Now this is one of the main reasons, that keeps me out of a new truck. The cost of maintenance is way too expensive, compared to my 7.3. The cost of filters, and parts are much more expensive, especially if the truck is driven about 10,000 miles per month. A friend has an 07 dodge drw with auto tranny that pulls a wedge trailer. He broke down yesterday in Iowa with about 180,000 miles. The DPF, EGR, and CAT had to be replaced for the second time since new, and out of warranty. He sure misses his old truck. I do like some of the upgrades in the new trucks, but for my use, I can't afford the cost per mile etc.

That's terrible. My '08 had 10,500 miles last week before I took it in for that flash recall and it regened ONCE in all those miles (and at that it has only come up for a very short period). I did the flash last Friday. I put 1000 miles on it and it just went into regen two days for 15miles on the freeway. Got about 200 miles on it since tuesday and nothing yet. I don't even get that "white smoke" issue....
Maybe I'm sorta lucky? Hrm, i get >16.5MPG in my daily commute too...

i have an 08 F250 with 13,000 on it. It did a regen once around 10,500 miles, no smoke or anything, just a very annoying loss of power and lots of engine noise. The regen lasted about 20 miles, 30-35 minutes in traffic.

I received the recall from Ford and took it to the dealer for the recall - to reprogram the display unit to let you know it was in the regen mode. WHAT A MISTAKE TO HAVE THAT DONE!

Ever since Ford touched my truck, it does a regen almost all the time. I drive my truck approx 280 miles one-way twice a week for work. Last week, my truck was in regen mode almost half the trip, in and out of the regen every 40-50 minutes. This morning, the truck was in regen mode for all but 20 minutes of the trip. That's ridiculous seeing as it regened once in the first 10,000 miles.

And at 70 mph, my mileage has gone from 16.3 mpg to 12.1.

I wish i had not had this done as Ford wont do anything about it, "it's within the operating parameters".

Think twice and talk to your ford dealer before having this done, it's not worth having it done.

if anyone has also had this problem and figured it out, please let us know.

I got the Flash done. I have had only 2 regens in the last 600 or so miles. One that lasted about 15 minutes, the other about 10 min. Performance is better, shifting better, gas mileage seems to better on the hightway, a little less in town. Overall a huge inprovement.

New guy, first post. Picked up a USED 2008 with 11,000 miles on it last night for 36K!

I understand what the regen IS now, but how do you know WHEN the truck is doing it?

I've only driven my truck about 100 miles so far and my MPG is BAD under 10 according to the dash info. I plan to give it a real hard run this weekend towing about 800 miles over the weekend.

You'll be seeing lots more of me on the forum as I continue to learn, this is my first diesel truck!

I've been burning B10 in my 6.4L PSD for several months now, and I had the latest "recall" updates (radiator venturi tee and "Drive to Clean" message) applied to the truck about three weeks ago. There appears to be a drop in mileage of around 1 MPG, but I want to run a couple of more tanks before drawing any conclusions. Prior to the update I was getting 14 MPG in mostly non-city driving and with winter blend biodiesel. If the mileage has dropped the 1 MPG after the update, then I'll probably switch my fuel to the Dieselex Gold which I can get through the same fuel distributor.
