For those familiar with the Ford remanufactured 6.0, how reliable are they? How many miles can I expect from them?

My '06 with 40k and no mods apparently developed a problem with the bearings. Instead of doing a valve job, I guess it was cheaper in labor for them to replace with a reman. The service advisor told me there was only a small amount of metal in the outer not inner section of the oil filter. They are replacing with a small block.

So I've got 60k and about 3 years left on my warranty. Who thinks the truck will go 60k without going back to the dealer?

Why would that scare you?? The 6.0 is out of production. Aside from some engines being built for the military (called the D.60v8), the VT365 (International version of the 6.0) is also out of production. As is the 7.3 and the T444e (International version of the 7.3). The only way to get a block for either of those engines at this point would be a reman.........

They said there aren't any new 6.0 blocks left. They said all they can get now are remans. Are you a tech?
yes i am.

and makes sense, if there is no new motors, then thats just what your going to have to do, hopefully it works out, and talk to them about extending your powertrain warranty from the date of the reman motor being installed

That would surprise me, since you can still order a new van with a 6.0.

You can only order a commercial van with the 6.0, not a passenger van, but you can still order it.

I have one on my 04. I had 35000 miles and then needed a new short block because leaking oil so bad.
I was told it was going to be a remanufactured block also. The first one that came in was in such bad shape they said they didn't want to put it in, so had to wait for the 2nd one.
I have about 20000 on it now and only problems is still leaks oil and now out of warranty.
So what do I do? I just stop worrying about it, there's nothing I can do and if something happens it happens.

There is no reason to be scared for buying a reman engine. Most manufacturers including Ford GM and Isuzu only offer a reman engine. There is no other option unless it's the current model year that the vehicle is built in. I work in parts in a GM/Ford dealer
and I had an 09 Chevy pickup with 3 miles that needed an engine and I could only order a reman under warranty.

they are remans but all new parts in them, no warranty job is going to get a complete motor because the price of the mtotr alone is over the entire cost cap.
only short block ive ever seen have a problem had about 25k on it and they guy put it in 3 gear while doing about 80 mph not knowing it, when the truck slowed down a little bit it finnaly shifted down to 3rd and spun a bearing, they guy kept driving it until it eventually threw the rod out the side, cant really even blame that on the parts just a stupid idiot driving the truck.
