I have a "Polar Start" brand which is exactly the same as "Autostart". It has range of about 1/3 of a mile, and is a two way unit that sends a confirmation signal when the vehicle starts or you lock the doors. What I like best is it doesn't have one of those fragile LCD screens. It works flawlessly.

Can a remote start be put on this engine?.

[/ QUOTE ]

I went with the Ford remote starter system. Dealer installed it prior to me even picking the truck up. Also don't have to worry about warranty as the dealer installed it.

Also financed the $379 for the starter right into the truck payment. Cost me like $7 more a month.

Yes. The greatest thing to have. Mine has a time delay of 30 sec or so built in to allow glow plugs to heat up. If the truck is already warm, I push button twice to bypass delay.

Yes. I am running a Python 881 XP. Security/Remote start system.

Built in 30 second delay for glow plugs. You can adjust engine crank time. (diesels need a little longer)

Built in turbo saver option: 1, 3, 5 and 10 minute time Just hit two buttons remove the key. Get out and hit the lock button and walk away.

Dual shock sensor. Remote range of 1800 feet. LCD display remote.

Circuit City Installed around $500.

Love it.

Paid $230 for a Codealarm CA670, two way confirming remote w/ turbo saver, telematics upgradeable. Installed myself.

I like the one that was mentioned where the button can be pressed twice to bypass the glow plugs, thats nice.

I have found that my truck starts better with the remote start. Less smoke and stumble when cold mostly. Reason being the remote start allows the glow plugs to heat longer than by manually going with the dash glow plug idiot light. It is the same as waiting 30 seconds to crank after powering up the glow plugs with the ignition key.

In case you did not know, the glow plugs keep heating after the idiot light goes out. The idiot light should be considered "minimum wait to start time".

I have had Ford dealer install on both my (00) and (03), these were offered by the dealer direct and came with warranty , branded FORD ,

Yes and I to would not have another truck with out remote start.

To me its a must in the North country, my will run about 12-14 min with out the key, you can also pull up , place in park , hit the blue button on key faub, remove key , pick up parts or what ever, place key back in ingnition and go again.

Do these trucks have some sort of anti-theft transponder embedded in the key?

I understand that those systems are becoming more and more common, and that they complicate remote start installation...

Don't we all wish. $50K for a truck and it doesn't even come standard with what you can get on a $30K truck. Go figure, but they are more than willing to sell / install a security system for a couple three hundred more.

I can tell you the excursions came with the embedded keys. It's not too much more complicated, it just raises the cost another $30 for the module. All you do is hook the 12v to a 12v source that stays on during cranking, and hook the ground to the ground output specificied on the remote start for the key bypass.

To program you follow the directions in the owners manual by inserting your first two keys, then activate the remote start to program the third.

The hardest part with using the by pass modules is finding the sweet spot near the ignition where the signal can be read.

I have an 05 F350 with 6.0 PSD DRW ,after did some research I ended up with the Bull Dog Model 500 Deluxe . It has some very nice functions for diesel engines .I installed it my self by followed thru the instructions and the wiring diagrams on their website .It has been working perfectly within the last 8 months with no problems .
If you can get your key made any where ,you don't need a bypass or a key transpoder at all.

Below are some of the functions I opted when programmed the unit the first time and they semms to be very useful in a diesel engine :

* High check ( the system will crank the engine until it started without any over/under crank )
* Wait to start ( the ignition will turn on and wait with either 10 to 40 seconds delay option before start )

* Turbo timer ( you can either set it to run 1 to 5 minutes without the key in the ignition after towing to let the turbo cools off )

This unit also comes with other goodies like built in relays ,tach or tachless and lots of other nice functions .

That's all I could remember to list here ,but if you can go to their website @ bulldogsecurity.com and look futher into the
Model Deluxe 500 . It tooks me about 5 hours to installed everything .
Best regards ,
Sonny !

PS: if you're decided to installed with that model and having problems with installation ,just send an email and I will help you with my best ...
