How do you remove the downpipe from the turbo on a 2002 Ford Powerstroke? I have the nut almost off but the clamp is not moving. I am trying to install a 4" turbo back exhaust. Any help would be appreciated.

Cut the pipe underneath the truck and just wiggle it. The clamp and pipe will pop off. Then remove the pipe from below.

I cut the pipe in front of the cross member and have been shaking it so much the truck moves. Would spraying WD 40 help any or should I keep wiggling the pipe? Thanks for the help

you might need to put a small blade screwdriver under the clampand pry it off a hair to get the thing to pop off.....i did that just a little and the clamp peeled right off no problem

Thanks for the help. I got it off by putting a pry bar just behind the turbo and tapped it and popped off. I am installing the MBRP exhaust and they said you did not have to remove the crossmember but I could not get it. The new 4" downpipe was hitting the leaf spring and the cross member so I will try again in the morning. Hopefully it will be worth the work.

K6G - we recently installed the same setup as you (MBRP 4" stainless) and did not have to remove the cross member. Get a helper with one of you on top and one under the truck... a little finesse, patience and wiggling and it will fit fine. Take the time to route and position the downpipe to avoid rattles while the guy on top tightens the clamp and the rest is a piece of cake. Took us about 45 minutes from start to finish and we were doing it in the driveway.

[/ QUOTE ] I did this last year and I had the same problem with the downpipe, I also shook it so hard that I was moving the whole truck and to no avail. I finally sprayed WD40 on the clamp and flange and let it sit for about 2 minutes and when I was crawling back under the truck I bumped the downpipe with my elbow and it just fell off, so yes WD40 makes a big difference. I know you have yours off already but hope this helps anyone that is going to do this. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

I have a 6-speed and it was a bear getting the new pipe in. I dont know what you got but people with autos dont seem to have as difficult a time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

After you get the clamp off, do yourself a huge favor and put some anti-seize on the inside of the clamp. This will help down the road if you should ever need to remove again.

Thanks forall the help. I was able to get the exhaust installed today along with the AFE Stage 2 intake system. Sounds great have not driven it but around the neighborhood so far. Looking forward to getting it out tommorow. With the added air when you let off and lower the rpms it sounds like breaks that need to be replaced. I think this is just the turbo but can anyone confirm this.

Confirmed.

It's actualy intake pressure backing up thru the air filter when you let off. You always had it, but now you can hear it with your new intake.

I had the same mods done to my truck this weekend. We spent well over an hour getting the downpipe off (the clamp was on backwards). Anyway, after taking the nut off the clamp, we used a 3lb sledge to knock it loose (from underneath). A real exhaust and intake make a HUGE difference.

My next mod is the wicked wheel.

I got mine from Josh at Diesel Performance Parts in Nashville sinced I live in the area as well. They could not have been more helpful. I hope to install the Hypertech tuner this week as well. I'm still not used to the air backing up when you lower the rpm's. Otherwise I really like it.
