The special tools were needed to remove radios in 2004 and earlier models. In the 2005 and 2006 trucks, the instrument surround/dash panel must come off to access the the four screws/bolts that hold the radio in.
This is actually not a big deal. Just grab an edge and begin to gently pull the instrument surround away from the dash. It is held in just by clips. If you have an automatic transmission, you will need to set your parking brake, turn your ignition to the "on" position and pull the gear shift lever down into low gear and tilt your sterring wheel all the way down to allow for enough room to pull the instrument surround out and away from the dash.
Once you have the surround completely seperated, reach behind and unclip all of the wires. After that is done, you can pull the surround completely away. If you have the automatic air controls, this module is screwed to the surround and will come out with it. The surround is tight getting it out from behind the stereing wheel column, but it can be done.
Hope this helps.
