I have an F350, '96, 130,000 miles. I have never replaced the CPS in it. Was driving this morning and truck died. I replaced fuel filter and it idled for a few minutes and then quit. Never had any engine lights come on at all. I called the Ford store and they have the new CPS alot cheaper and said they've heard of people using the new ones instead of the old ones. Has anyone tried to use the new CPS sensor in the older model truck?

The main thing on replacement is making sure you use a six point socket (not a 12 point) as the bolt is in there pretty tight! I ended up rounding off the bolt on mine, and it then becomes QUITE a job at getting it out!
Overall, it's a simple job to replace a CPS, and it sounds as if that is your problem.

I carry a spare in my glove box at all times now, but in the 12+ years I've owned my truck, I've only had to replace it once.

Appreciate the information. We changed it out and everything is working fine. After searching more on the site I saw where this was discussed previously...sorry about that. We are out of town and my brother told me about this site. We will definitely check back in, lots of good information.
