Just replaced my injectors, but one cylinder won't fire until the truck is warm.

Also, In my idiotness, I didn't realize the new injectors came with a Long Lead injector. I was happily popping injectors in and out without even noticing. It ended up number 3...

Anyways, the point I'm getting to, I want to take the valve covers off again, and figure out which injector is acting up, and replace it.

3 questions

1) I don't have any real diagnostic equipment, I was going to unplug each injector one at a time until I couldn't tell any difference in the way the engine behaves. Is this the best way?

2) Do I need to drain all the cylinders of oil and fluid after I pop out the injector, or can I just vacuum out the one? I presume I'll need to drain them all, but it would be peachy if I didn't have to.

3) As long as the valve covers are off, I was going put the Long Lead injector where it belongs in #8, has it been bad that it's been in number 3?

I apologize in advance for my ignorance.

Many thanks,

Yes you can unplug 1 at a time to find the suspect one.
You could also check all the oil spouts with valve cover off and see if one is not spitting oil out the same rate as others or if one is just dumping oil.
Might just have a loose poppet screw on 1 injector as well

Thanks :)

The Long Lead in number 3 isn't firing. Should I swap number 8 and number 3 injectors, or just put in a standard injector in number 3 and ditch the long lead alltogether?

What are the pro's and cons of the long lead injector? Is it just "cackle" noise reduction at idle?

Since my LL is in number 3, and isn't firing until warm, does that mean it's bad, or just in the wrong spot?

Update, swapped number 8 and number 3, the Long Lead still wouldn't fire in cylinder 8.

Popped in a standard AD, problem solved. Was just a bad injector.

I would remove the solenoid and see if the poppet screw is loose.
It is the center screw

Good on ya for finding what one was bad,,,

HEY, YOU DIDN'T GET ELECTROCUTED DID YA?

Just wanted to make sure, it scares the BEJEZUS out of some people on here that we would do such a "Backyard" TOOTHELESS, Tobacco chewing, primitive sort of trouble shooting.....  :icon_rolleyes:

Worked pretty good didn't it?

LOL

Thanks for the great tips, but since the injector is new, I'm just sending it back to the guys that I bought it from. I would be interested in taking it apart, just for kicks, but don't want to void the warranty. Maybe next time I'll build up the courage to buy an injector repair kit and do it myself:lol:

The wealth of knowledge and kindness to share it is very, very much appreciated.
