just got back from the garage that did my front brakes. i had them just slap some pads on till i can price out new rotors, as theirs were 178.00 each. i figured id find some on line for maybe 25.00 less or so, save a few bucks. Instead i find a HUGE discrepancy in price. id wanted to get your guys advice here, since this is the first time ive had to buy new rotors for this thing.

For instance here..
i found them from 51.00 to over 225.00. now im wondering what the heck.
what constitutes a good rotor? it cant be totally a "you get what your pay" thing can it?

any help would be great, and if you know of a better place to get em. please let me know.

thanks

ps. my rig is a 99 f350 duely crew 7.3.

the more expensive ones will be slotted or cross drilled
(for heat/gas dissipation) some will be cryogenically frozen
(to reduce the chance of warp)

if this is the 1st and only time youve replaced your rotors
then id say go w/ the more "conventional" (regular) rotors
available (w/ a lifetime warranty) from the likes of autozone
& o'rileys auto parts.

I got mine at the dealership they were about the same price as what my friend at NAPA could get them for. And it saved me from having to go across town.

I see you have a '99 early or late, early '99 are a lot more expensive than late. You can switch, you have to switch the hubs and the rotors, more expensive the first time, but a LOT cheaper after that.

Is your truck 2wd or 4wd. It makes a big difference in price with DRW trucks due to the overall size of the rotor. The rotor, hub, and spacer are all one piece on 2wd's. Last time I checked there are no aftermarket rotors for 2wd duallies. There are the Fords which are made in Mexico or Raybestos/Bendix/Etc. which are made in China. China made rotors go from just under $100 to almost $200. Ford house rotors are about $175. Pad quality/hardness is far more important than rotor quality in my experience.

Again rotors will vary in price depending on what you buy. I put cyro'd powerslots on mine and I love the way my truck stops. They actually freeze the rotor to several hundred degrees below zero which makes the metal much more stable.
If you just want to slap a typical rotor on go to Nap and buy their lifetime rotor. I just put them on my buddies 02 2wd dually, they are huge as the rotor and hub are all one piece, but still they were only $127 bucks each. Also make sure you drain all the brake fluid and replace with new. PM me with any ?

It would be nice if there were cryo'd and/or slotted rotors for the trucks like mine. I would pay a little more to have them. Maybe someone on here has found some that I don't know about. I called ART several years about getting some cryo'd rotors and the price was around $400 EACH for the front rotors. I called back several moths later and they said they had never offered them.

The rotors you have linked will not work on DRW trucks(2wd). Powerslot still does not make them for my truck or the OP's (if it's 2WD). Napa shows some slotted rotors on their website but the local store still has no idea what I'm talking about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

that has to be for a set...both sets I have bought were around 4-425 a set with shipping...the ones on my dually were purchased in 2000 or 2001...still on the truck..ART cannot be beat in my book.. BTW that is a two wheel drive truck I have...hub and rotor all one assembly..the UPS guy was cursing as he carried them to the front door...

just re read our post again...thats crazy..I KNOW ART makes front 2WD rotors that are slotted and cryoed...wanna see pics?

I called ART back to verify the price. It was per rotor. They were still quoting around $900 with pads & shipping. They might have been good, but that quote was a little too much for me. This was around 2004. They told me they had made few sets in the past and that they would have to buy the rotors from Ford, which they would slot and cryo. A friend mine with the same drivetrain called them last summer looking for some rotors and got a really high quote also.
