Ok I replaced my 10+ foot serpintine yesterday that I purchased from NAPA(expecting a good quality part). Now on first start of the day or after it sits for awhile, usually enough time for the belt and pullies to cool down a little. It squeels like a scalded dog for a few seconds to a couple of minutes. Both belts have the same number of grooves and lenght is pretty darn close, the old one is just a little bit bigger. And the pullies appear to be free from any gunk. Any ideas???

Denis, I've used a small peace of soap to coat the belt on both side. You can do this for small squealing yours sounds like the belt is a little oversized. I had an undersized thermostat housing gasket from NAPA, had to pick one up from Ford. We have some belt cleaner at work I’ll check who makes it and post it. You won’t find this stuff in an auto parts store; it’s used for drive belts of industrial compressors, condenser fans, etc.
Oh, if you do the soap thing safe work practices, that fan and belt are moving fast.

Recently had the same experience. The NAPA belt was a bit oversized. I took them both in and had them measure them with the belt tape and it was pretty close, but no cigar. If any thing the old one should have been a little longer(you would think) I just stopped by the Ford House and picked one up. No problems as of yet.

I have never had any luck with Napa's belts. Even the old V belts would expand out of the groove when you reved the engine. They are the only ones (I think Gates makes their belts) that use that rubberized mouse fur on the belt face and I have a feeling it is junk. That said we just put a Napa belt on the BILs truck and it seemed to work fine.

Yo DD,
Try some bees wax. It works better than soap (soap is my second choice)the bees wax is sticky and lasts a lot longer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/phoney.gif

I believe the length is the issue. Ford replaced my stock belt (Ford part #F8TE8620FC) with an updated version (Ford part #1C2Z-8620-LA)which is slightly shorter. Had the same problem, so I put the original back on and no more noise. FYI the NAPA belt (part #25081223) is 122 5/8", which is shorter than the original.

Good luck with the Ford belt. I have yet to find a replacement that is the same length (which I believe is 122.7") as the one that came on my truck from the factory. I have 86,xxx on that belt and I don't know what I will do when I have to replace it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif
