I was able to reprogram my truck to not "chime" when the seat belt is not fastened, but can anyone tell me if you can reprogram so the chime doesn't activate when the key is in the ignition, turned off and the door open??? (F250 SD 4X4 6.0)

The seatbelt "off" is in the manual, towards the back. I couldn't make it work either the first few times, I had to do the fasten/unfasten thing one additional time, or one more time than the manual said and it worked.
But, how about the "key in ignition" chime. Any way to disable it???

i had to take the key switch out, and remove a piece of metal about 3/4 inch long and 1/2 inch wide with a tab on one end. removed it and now all is well.

trackersocha...was that on the '96 250? I read something on a 7.3 mod site about inserting something in the pin hole beneath the keyway on the ignition switch, (which would remove the inition switch) sounds like the same thing. I'm hoping for a reprogram modification rather than removing pieces of the ignition mechanism.

Remove the big panel under the steering column that allows access to the fuse panel. To the right of the steering column you will see a GRAY connector and to the right of the GRAY connector you will see a GREEN connector. In the GRAY connector you should see a BLACK wire with a PURPLE stripe. Cut that wire about 2 inches from the connector. Door/Key chime dies. Just did it last night on my 04 X and, finally, no more PITA DING...DING...DING. If you want to verify the wire color, remove the lower steering column cover (3 screws) and you will see a wire attached to the ignition switch. That wire should go to the GRAY connector.

I figured out the seatbelts as far as the door goes where is the switch that turns the dome light on and the chime when the door is open.

I have not defeated the dome light but to defeat the door chime do the following. Look under the steering column quite near the steering wheel. There are three holes. Two are occupied by screws the third isn't. Stick a stout paper clip or small nail up into that hole. Push in on the paper clip. At the same time turn the key into the on not the start position and pull. The entire ignition tumbler will pull out. You will sell a shiny metal strip with electrical contacts on it. Place a strip of electrical on the face of the contacts. Re-insert the tumbler and you are done. If you have the paper clip, electrical tape and some scissors to cut the tape clean in your hand when you start the whole project should take about a minute. This is such an easy job you may have to get some of those little 8 oz beers as a 12 ozer is a bit of overkill.

If you follow that link it will take you to the whole conversation about remocing the ignition cylinder and pictures of what to pull off of it. I did it in a few minutes with no problems.

Dome light switch is in the door latch. Its the part that locks around the pin on the door jamb. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
