I have never had much luck with the search feature on this forum (or any forum for that matter) but I am trying to find out if anybody has any info on retrofiting the 2008 and up towing mirrors on a 2002 Superduty. I currently have power towing mirrors without signal lights. I like the look of the newer (08 and UP) mirrors and would like to get the powered towing ones with signals if it is possible. Anybody have any input.

I read a write up on another site that showed a small plastic cross shaped tab that needed to be ground (or broken) off, the rest is just bolting it on and wiring the plug.

Remove door panel, remove speaker, remove 4 nuts from mirror (on the 02 2 of the nuts will be behind rubber plugs and one will be behind a piece of sound deadener, all just pull off), unplug mirror harness from behind speaker, remove mirror, compare to 08 mirror and grind off tab that is different, reverse steps for installation. Should take about an hour for both sides. On mine (from flipper mirrors to towing mirrors) I had to figure out the wiring for the power functions, you will likely have to do that too.

When I swapped my '01 mirrors for '08 mirrors, I got each one from a different source. One of them had the cross-shaped metal section on the back I ground down... the other one did not.

My '08 mirrors are power/heated/power-fold/power-tele with the running lights and turn signals. My old ones were just power, no lights. My old mirrors used 3 wires, the new ones had 11 (if you get the mirrors with memory there's even more wires). So I had to run 8 new wires to each mirror (2 for fold, 2 for tele, 1 for heat, 1 for running light, 1 for turn signal, one for common ground).

I know the glass sections and the fold can be done manually if you decide to mount the mirrors, and deal with the wiring later (like I did for a while).... not sure if you can telescope them manually or not.
