hello everyone I'm new here, and this is my first ford diesel its a E450 with 21600 miles, I ve been reading a lot here and cant seem to find anything that relates to my problem exactly, rough idle, and very low power at start up, as soon as you get a mile down the road, it clears up, and doesn't have a problem the rest of the day, but this happens almost every day it does have a pretty good oil leak it has a new hpop new glow plugs and controller the previous owner has done a little work to it, and has told me it needs a new IDM any advice and all help is appreciated

I'm in ky, so the weather has changed from 98 to 80 and that change caused the engine to not start after many cranks on the starter, I had to give it a small shot of ether, and it fired up with the very sluggish idle, and since then for the last two days ive had it plugged in at night, the idle problem is gone and it fires right up

Welcome to the board. You NEVER want to use ether on these engines; they were not designed for that and it can cause some serious damage.

It sounds like you have the same symptoms as me. It's very likely time for new injectors with that many miles if they are original.

Where is your oil leaking coming from? That may be important to help diagnose your issue. How bad is the leak?

most of my oil leak is coming from the right side, the guy that had it before me thinks its from the oil pan, he put new valve cover gaskets thinking it was from there, he also put a new hpop trying to stop it, I'm leaking about a quart a month, which it looks a lot worse than that I ve been so busy I havent had time to look at anything

Bobs RV

Take a look at Bobs RV.Do not use ether. It while do in your glow plugs!!All diesels that have glow plugs dont need ether.
Check your injector oil reservoir. If its not up to the top, it wont start or run ruff tell the oil is to the top.Should be a plug on top of the reservoir.
Good luck.
