My 1997 E350 Supervan with 7.3 PSD is acting up while cruising with a light throttle. Most noticable between 35 and 45 mph. Engine starts easy, idles perfect, and accelerates smooth, but cruising with a light throttle you feel a jerking or surging. Tha van does not have a tach, so I do not know what the RPM is doing. You do notice it a little at highway speed, but it is not as noticable. The check engine light has not come on. The vehicle has 192,000 mile on it, with no major engine work done. Still original Auto Trans.
Thank you in advance for any ideas you may have.

My first thought would be CPS...

Mine had a little miss at 40MPH for a couple of months, kept trying to figure it out. Finally when the CPS bit the dust and I changed it, all is better. Contrary to popular belief, sometimes they do take a while to die.

Well, thats two votes for the CPS. I thought that was more of a Run/No Run item. Mine did quit on the freeway back at 152,000 miles and would not restart, that was also the CPS.
I will pick one up this weekend, and give it a try.
Thanks for your help.

Make sure you get it from the dealer and ask for part # F7TZ-12K073-B.

New part 25 to 50 bucks. -A (old part) $192 bucks. Some dealers are selling -A for the -B price, that is what I got.

Some dealers will not buy the -B until they sell all their -A, heard that from 3 dealers. Luckily I live within 20miles of at least five Ford houses.
