I am getting ready to do my first oil change and have ordered a test kit from Blackstone?? (can't remeber if that is the right name lol). The kit wil not be here in time so I am planning on holding onto some oil till the kit shows up. Now I have 2 questions 1) how much do I need to save and 2) what should I store it in untill the kit shows up?

Thanks,

Brian

About as much as will fit in a pill bottle. I would put it in a glass container that is very clean.

Their containers hold about 4 oz or so.

What I would do is drain out a quart oil container as much as you can (just leave it upside down for a day or so) then use that to collect your sample. Fill it about half-way up, then when you get your sample kit, shake the oil jug and fill the sample bottle. Make sure you take your sample about midway in the drain time. Don't collect the stuff that may be on the bottom of the pan.

I've used this method even with oil additive bottles that I fished out of a trash can, and they said that it wasn't an issue. No I didn't use the snake oil in my truck.
