I was thinking on getting one. Does anyone have one on their 7.3? Is it worth it, are there a lot of different things we can monitor? I was especially interested in EOT. I already have 6 gauges (see sig) but obviously I have PMS and just want more stuff. Plus, I ran out of room for EOT and Volts.

I don't have an overhead trip computer either, I understand the Scangauge II can do that function, as well as outside air temp?

I have it and I watch it more than any other gauge I have. With the x-gauges, you can monitor just about anything you could with AE - I watch instant MPG, trip MPG, ICP pressure, voltage or MAP pressure as my main four. I carved a piece of wood to fit in the recess thats to the left of the a/c controls. I drilled a 1/2 hole through the wood and one in the back of the recess. The scangauge mounts flush and the cable runs back through the wood and behind the dash down to the OBD port. I think it looks nice.

Been using one now for a number of years, watch the mpg, out side temp or volts and mph as I have a different set of tires than stock, and rpms that the van did not come with...
Have not figured out how to get other items on the display... but I am cool with what I have, maybe I will program it later.... maybe...

Sounds like I need one. Is there just one Scangauge or are they vehicle specific? And can I swap it between vehicles easily? Sorry for all the Q's but I just never thought about one till a couple days ago after reading the 6.0 forums, a lot of those guys use them.

There is just one current ScanGauge II - fits all OBD equipped vehicles. The only part that doesn't swap from one vehicle to another is when you do your vehicle specific adjustments to get MPG accurate. The XGauge programming has some vehicle specific codes as well - the ICP sensor data for a 7.3 wouldn't work on a Honda for example.

I'm new here and not sure which gauge you are referring to but here is what I'm running. It monitors everything, adj speedo for tires, run buzz & cct test. I love it. Ran out of room so I mounted it on the column. Not crazy about that but I can keep track of everything and pull codes, etc.

Well that's a sharp unit, although about twice as much as the Scangauge II. I already have AE for Buzz/cyl cont/codes etc., still, it looks like a quality unit. Is it easy to switch to different sensors and do they load/update right away? Is the real time data delayed at all?

I noticed the website says they sell sensors for the data the PCM does not provide, I assume that you could get a coolant temp sensor for it then.

In the pic it's showing icp pressure and oil temp. That's most critical for me towing steep grades here in the desert with a 13K lb toyhauler.
this one does it all except print.it's not expensive, less than $300. You can set it to cycle the display and will display 2 items at a time and you can set it for how long it displays before cycling to the next.

Big B:

I have a 02 F350 4x4 CREW 7.3 too. I got this guage and am currently working to get all the advertised guages working on my truck. Specifically I have not been able to get it to read the ICP for my truck yet. I do watch the IPR duty cycle though. I also cannot get it to read the water temp accurately.

I have worked with Scanguage to get this information programmed in correctly to no avail. The water seems that it may never work. The ICP diplays no value.
I'd be happy to tell you what is working when I get home if you pm or email me at the same user name at gmail.

It does do intake air and reads 2 degrees cooler than the 'outside air' display that the truck has. (not sure why...)

It does display volts, which is handy.

and FYI, it is one unit that is used in any vehicle. You do need to program the 'x-guages' in with codes that are specific to your vehicle. Programming them in is pretty easy, but does require a little bit of patients to put them all in. Figuring it out only took me a few minutes but I am pretty computer savvy.

rshosted - I have ICP programmed in and it works perfectly. What code did you use?

rshosted; Where are you trying to get water temp data? If it's via the PCM, that would be where the problem is. The PCM does not receive water temp info. The water temp sensor goes straight to the dash gauge, and no further.

RT:
Ok, this thread got me thinking. I went home and played with the ICP x-guage programming. I did make a mistake. It does work. My appologies to Scanguage; although, had they of responded to my email this wouldn't have happened.

Tinman:

The water, I was told, does go to the PCM by many other people. I have not personally looked at the wire that goes from the factory water guage and ran back to see if it goes straight to a thermocoupler or not, but I would suspect it goes into the computer first.... That and I was told by Scanguage they could read my water temps.... alas it dos not appear to be true. But they are picking up some type of data from the PCM that appears may be water temps, but they are not translating/deciphering it correctly.

Not on the pickups, but it does go to the PCM on the 7.3L vans. Not sure why the difference, but it's clearly shown on the factory wiring diagrams.

Maybe the scangauge uses engine oil temp as a surrogate for coolant temp. It's going to be pretty close.

Maybe a dumb question... but, Can you re-calibrate your tire size with the SG2? I guessing it only does it for the scan guage, and not the OB2.

Nope - no programming changes with ScanGauge. AutoEnginuity will do it in the ABS section.

Ahh, but you can calibrate your tire size for accurate milage data?

What are the parameters for EOT?
Does the boost max out at 15PSI for stock on the scan guage?

Engine Oil Temp is Engine

TXD C410F1221310
RXF 046245130610
RXD 3010
MTH 00090005F060
Name EOT
measured parameter degrees Fahrenheit

I've never had my boost max out on the scangauge - it follow my boost gauge up to 25 psi.

I know that with the 265's on the van the scangauge is +2 and that is closer to the correct speed.. I check when passing infront of one the road side speed guns that the local police will some times put out.
Low end the speedo is closer , but at the 55 range the gauge is better..
I can check the engine oil temp.......
back pressure
trans temp
boost
out side air with a good working gauge in the air box for the van.. before it was replaced it was always at one temp, never changed.

Sounds like a good product

I am already installing a Tranny temp guage and Pyro,
but the boost and EOT would be great to know without having to have 4 guages in my dash.

Seems like a great addition for a good price, and has functionality beyond just a couple of guages..... (code reader, mpg and also the guages)

What I mean't RT is, what are the parameters for EOT (0*-240* ... temperature wise on the SG2?)
What is the max we should see on a 7.3L SD PSD?

RT, do you actually acheive 25PSI on the SC2 for boost?
Doesn't stock run around 18 PSI?

Also, what are they running now adays?

Thanks for the info... I will be picking one up very soon.

Your EOT shouldn't get much above 15-20° above your coolant temp. - that would be pulling uphill. The 6.doh guys call this the delta. They monitor it to know when their oil coolers / EGR coolers are fixing to blow up. The 7.3 usually runs with a delta between 0 and 5° at cruising speed. If your water temp is 190, then I'd expect your oil temp to be 195 or below. If your delta is routinely above 20°, I'd start looking for oil cooler issues - although they are so rare on our motors.

Stock may be around 18. I'm running the DP-Tuner - I can get to 25 with no problems. That's on my boost gauge and my ScanGauge.
