I can only talk about my stock 2004 with a 03 built engine. I use the SCT's Tow flash all the time and tow a 10K pound trailer every once in a while. The truck has 34K miles and has never "puked" coolant. Yes, some coolant has been released from the coolant reserve but it has never gone below the Min line. About a month ago I added 32 oz. of coolant just to bring it up to the Max line.
A week ago I flashed the truck back to factory settings so I could trade the Xcalibrator for version 2. This weekend I towed the trailer with the factory flash and it felt like the truck was neutered. I immediately felt that some power was gone. While towing the EGTs went over 1,200 for a while and they have never been that high when towing with the SCT Tow flash. I got the gauges after the SCT so I don't know if the EGTs got that high before the SCT. I also lost about 1 MPG in daily driving and about 2 MPG when towing.
So, is the SCT safe? In my case it is. No coolant puking, no transmission issues, better mileage, and lower EGTs. Your mileage may vary.
