I would like to know if anyone is running the SCT economy tune in their truck and what kind of mileage increase did you see? I commute about fifty miles/day in mixed driving and use my truck as a daily driver. I also tow an 11k fifth wheel and would like to here from those members using the SCT tow mode.

I have the tow mode with Jake brake function from Innovative Diesel and it is great. I can slow down real quickly when I put the tow mode on without using alot of brakes. It really helps when loaded. I don't know anything about the economy tune because I do not have that.

Fivercoach,

I asked the same question here this week. No answers so far. I put on about 1k per week, and the economy would be a bonus. I have an SCT Xcal2 ready to pull the pin on with Innovative. I even taklked with my dealer (good friends) who told me to go ahead. I just need to get with it. I am just a bit skeered without gauges - which are a bit out of my range right now. Let me know what you hear.

you should be alright with an econ tune and no gauges. I mean gauges should come stock but it's not adding THAT much horsepower. I say go for it!

Its all about being responsible. I did not opt for the economy tune. I have the towing, street and xtreme street tunes. I run the street program on a daily basis with no problems. I do not have guages. With the street program I have seen an average increase of 4 mpg highway and 1 mpg city. On a tank of mixed driving I usually have around a 2 mpg increase.
If you are responsible enought to drive around with out smoking off your tires at every stop, you will not need guages. You can even contact Innovative Diesel about this. I do not run the Xtreme street for an extended period of time since I don't have guages. I rarely tow anything over 6,000# so it is not an issue towing either.
Obviously you want the economy associated with the tuner, the power will be a bonus, so I would assume that you will drive it responsibly enough that guages wouldn't be an issue.

I run there economy tune and my daily driving is real short and probably about 5 miles on the highway and a couple in town daily and my truck hand calculated averages around 15.5-16. I used the economy tune to pull my trailer earlier this year and it is probably close to 9000lbs loaded and I averaged about 10.5-11. But I kept the rpm's low and stayed at 70 and below.

I have the Livewire, which I am somewhat disappointed in it because of multiple programming errors, wrong display units, etc, etc.

However, I towed my trailer last weekend, which weights 14,000 lbs. My truck is an '06 King Ranch 6.0 l stock engine. I used the standard programs (not custom because they are still not working), used the Jake brake and went up massive hills and back down them. The stock tunes on the 65HP mode with Jake worked awesome. I got a whopping 9 MPG on average and the Jake Brake worked awesome.

I also got back last night from Salmon fishing off the coast. My Aquasport 250 w/trailer weights 7000 lbs empty and I had 120 gallons of fuel on board. I averaged 12 mpg with the trailer up and down the local hills here. Still really good. My previous truck only got 7mpg average (Nissan Titan) pulling the same trailer.

I am mystified why the custom tunes don't work on my truck and it's a long story, but the tuner has pretty much been a thorn since I bought it, but the Jake brake feature and the added horse power is great. So, the truck has better economy, yes. The safety feature of the Jake is alot better and may have saved me from an accident this weekend because of road construction down an 8% grade. It's a love / hate thing with it now. I would have easily paid 3x the amount for a tuner with the same features that worked flawlessly and didn't have alot of issues. I have posted my complaints in other topics, so I won't go into a bunch of details.

I'm still not sold on the Livewire yet. It seems to be a bulky unit. Contact Innovative and see if they could help you with the programming, great customer service there! I'll stick with my XCal 2 for a while...

Unwired,

Your custom programs will work fine, I think there is an issue trying to get them loaded. If you can't get it to work, contact me and I'll give you an RMA to have it updated. There is compact flash memory that holds the programs and sometimes it can become slightly unseated. I believe SCT now has an updated socket to hold the memory.

Thanks.
