I have been using a SmartTire tire pressure monitoring system on my RV for 9 years. It has worked flawlessly - telling me current TP and tire temperature of each tire. It has saved me when I picked up a nail and developed a slow leak - the system alerted me to the low pressure and I was able to pull off and have the spare mounted.
This system uses sensors mounted to a band on the wheel. After recent repairs to the RV suspension (new, heavier shackles), the TP monitor is no longer consistently picking up the sensor signals. Curiously, when I went through the Hampton Roads Tunnel, the monitor suddenly received the signals from all the tires.
The sensors are now beyond the expected 7-year battery life. I understand SmartTire systems are no longer manufactured for RVs or automobiles.
Two questions:
1- any suggestions on resurrecting my current system?
2- if I need a new system, what are the best/reliable systems for use with a 5th wheel?
