Recently out of no where I was traveling in 4wd (snow) the truck started making a loud resonating / rubbing / vibration through the front end. It only happens when I hit an uneven surface, I need to jam on the brakes and slow down to 5-10mph for it to go away. Driving flat and smooth it wont happen. It does it either in 2wd or 4wd. When I unlock the hubs driving totally free it wont do it. I'm assuming hub assembly, possible bad U joint?

I plow with the truck, I started hearing a rub / low tone type sound coming from the right front side 2 months ago when I mounted the plow. When I took the plow off it went away.It would happen every so often but the majority of the time was with the plow on so I guess the load was contributing to the problem.

4wd works great, I was cleaning a wind row out of the front of my driveway and pushed slowly 50ft down the street after this happened and no noise at all so I'm assuming the transfer case is fine.

Mine does that too. My axle U joints dont have any rollers left in them. as long as the shafts are spinning on the same axis all is well. but as soon as anything knocks them out of line I have massive vibration. I have over 1/4" play in the joints.I plan on replacing them soon. Also someone left one hub locked for many thousands of highway miles. That has damaged the differential spider gears resulting in a loud rumble when going around corners.
Just a thought.

So your leaning more towards U joints? If I need to pull the axles think I should replace the hubs while I have everything out?. Stainless Mile Markers from Summit for $155.00
