has anyone been able to find a shift knob that will change out with the stock one?

No, but I asked this last month. My replies were interesting; cut splines off and weld a stud onto the top of the shifter, use a hair dryer to get factory knob off, thread the splines with a die, drill shift knob of choice and tap threads to install a set screw. I got a lot of replies but none of them seemed practical for what I was willing to do. If you figure something out let us know.
Good luck,

I'll get pics of mine up soon. I'm currently running cheap billet alum. models from Auto Zone on my tranny and transfer case. They are the cheap ones that have the different colors of O-rings for the machined ribs, but I opted not to run the O-rings at all. I've had plenty of comments on them and they fasten with set screws. No problems as of yet and they've been on for 3 years. I'm working on a chrome knob from a Peterbilt now that was a 15over. I have someone swapping the air splitter to an electrical switch for operating either back-up lights or something else. Any knob with a set screw setup will work on these trucks and most knobs on the market today are universal that way.

There are tons of knobs out there that will work.
Goggle shift knobs and you will have a few hours of selecting.
Here is a pic of one I have used. PIC WITH SHIFT KNOB

If you want a Hurst T you are going to have to find a way to get some threads. Either threading the shaft after cutting off the splines, welding a bold to the end of the shaft, or what I did was cut the shaft off, drilled the inside out and tapped it then ran a bolt in that I cut off the head. We have a Hurst on our old 1990 F250, mine looks like This.

While we're on the subject...HOW THE $&%& DO YOU GET THE T/C SHIFT KNOB OFF???

It's just a splined shaft, maybe there is some adhesive that they use or maybe they are pressed on not sure. You just have to pull pretty hard. If you aren't affraid of damaging the old knob grab it with some channel locks and start twisting.

Take a piece of 1x2, place under the knob, tap up with hammer of your choice.
Mine came off speed shifting at the track !!

The new aftermarket one is held in with 3 set screws
