I have a few questions about these two products.

PULLRITE SUPERGLIDE:
<ul type="square">[*]Can the little piece that attaches to the trailer by the kingpin be easily removed if the trailer were to be pulled by another vehicle w/o the Pullrite?
[*]Can you pull any other trailer not equipped with the little mechanism with a Pullrite hitch?
[*]On the Pullrite website, it is stated that the big 24K hitch works when reversing. Is this not the case for the 16K?
[*]is there much maintenance or wear associated with the sliding mechanism?
[*]is the kingpin clamping system on this hitch a good design?
[*]any other pros/cons with this hitch?
[*]HITCH
POPUP HITCH EXTENDER:
<ul type="square">[*]has anyone used these things?
[*]do you think they will damage the trailer or pinbox because of the extra 'leverage' they place on the trailer?
[*]any other opinions?
[*]EXTENDER
That Extender is an interesting concept. I can't give any input but I hope someone here does. My Reese slider is working great for me.

i have installed several of the RV5 units. neat item, but the only problem i seem to run into is the height increase of the pin. even dropping the hitch doesnt always do it. i have had to flip the axle, and drop the hitch. the sliders are nice, but i have seen enough damage from people pushing thier luck trying to make a turn. i have also been stuck in traffic while a guy had to slide his hitch back to make into a parking lot. they both have their goods and bads. the RV5 is not easy to remove, but once it installed, you can use it from truck to truck. the slider hitch is nice, as you can tow any trailer with it, but you need to remember to slide it before you make that sharp turn. sometimes, it is required in the middle of an intersection..

Hmm, only things I know about a superglide is that
a) I don't have one
b) I want one
and c) I can't afford one

That extender looks pretty cool. In theory, that should reduce the pin weight by a touch. Maybe only by a little, which is then added back by installing that big hunk of metal, making it an effective wash... but in theory...

I have a Superglide hitch.

1. It could be removed, not easily. Think of it as an anti-theft device. I'm not sure, but I believe they have an adaptor available.
2. Again, I'm not sure, but I believe you could. The slider would not work. I've never tried.
3. My 16k works in reverse.
4. A little bit of grease is all it needs occasionally. I keep mine lathered up with white lithium. Slides very easily. No noise or wear.
5. When it clamps on, there is a very satisfying engaging sound and the lever slides in about 6". You won't make a mistake thinking its hooked up when its not. You may have to raise the trailer a bit or rock the truck to disengage the lever occasionally.
6. I've had mine for 3 years. I just finished a 5k tow into the northwest. Never had any reason to doubt the hitch. Sliding mechanism works good with my truck, even if you have to jackknife. Of course, the type of front cap on your trailer might have a
bearing on the effectiveness of the hitch. The one on my rig is rounded at the corners so I have plenty of clearance in sharp turns. One thing about the hitch, though, you have to back in straight. It does not like to hook up if you are off to the side more than an inch.
I have the removeable rail system so when I remove the hitch there is nothing in the bed except four small holes, which can be plugged with rubber boots, if you wish. They also market a gooseneck hitch attachment for use with the rail system if you need the goose as well. IMO, this is the best 5th hitch for SWB PU on the market, and they price them accordingly.

You're thinking about an ordinary slider hitch, such as a Reese or Drawtite.

Not applicable to a Pulliam PullRite SuperGlide 5er hitch. It's fully automatic. You turn the truck, and the hitch slides. Nothing for you to mash or twist or move or slide - it's fully automatic.

Not cheap. But if I had to have a shorty pickup to tow my 5er, I wouldn't hit the road until I could affort a SuperGlide hitch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

No you can not tow a trailer that has a pullrite pin with one that does not. I have an adapter that I purchased that I carry in case the unit breaks down or I need it serviced. I did not want to spend the money for this hitch but now that I have used it love it. It turns tight, no thinking when backing up about the cab. It hitches and unhitches perfect. And I do not have to back straight into it. A little grease on the rails, some wd 40 on the latch and she is ready to go.

What do you feel about the strain on the trailer? Does Popup offer any warranty on the trailer end of things if it does damage or is it on their piece alone? I will call them and get some info as well and will post that information.
If height is a problem, would the construction of a 'custom' pinbox be a better way to go so you could get the exact height and length required? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

That would be a huge concern - especially if your trailer is still under warranty. Instant voided warranty.

Most 5ers already have an "extended pin box" similar to that one. Mine does. The ones that need it added are usually the very-heavy luxury 5ers. And I'll bet Travel Supreme and King of the Road will void your trailer warranty in a heartbeat if you extended the pinbox that way. Their answer? Buy the right tow vehicle to begin with. Or use a SuperGlide hitch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif
