Hey there fellas, So this is a a first for me.
Guy calls with a '05 550. Says it lost boost immediately turned around headed back to farm. Progressive loss of power , died, restarted, limped back. White acrid smoke lots of missing on start up in morning, come quick, I need it Monday.
I go out and he has had a guy down the street who has been or is a diesel tech at a ford dealer down in Baltimore, over. He told him he thought it was a blocked CAT so the owner separated joint to open it up to let it breath.
My head is shaking. Hook up AE 4 6 7 glow plugs, injection pressure lower than desired. Clear pull up PIDs Ficm main and logic perfect, CMP and something sync would flash yes no yes no yes no, pull up pressure , turn key, injector cycling didn't sound that strong but it was windy and cold and had wool hat on. Crank it, she coughing catching and not lots of white acrid raw fuel from those 3 plugs. It catches, missing hard in those 3 cold cylinders with raw fuel. They catch but and smooth like a motor should going thru that. I look at pressure and it's like 580 then jumps to 1800 and down and a yes flakey.
I open the hood and find a used glowplug controller hanging laying on top of the old controller. I lift it up and see it wore thru an ICP wire and the original controller was shiny from the new used extra controller laying on it vibrating.
Pulled it back and started it. 580 steady, now running smooth from no shorting and hot cylinders. Revs up to about 2.5k rpm and it feels like a fuel pressure/restriction fade out. Let off pedal it does not recover, feels like it's starves to stall. Immediate refracting it just trying to light off but not. Leave key off from five minutes, the same, just trying. Turn key on and not crank for about 10 seconds it fires right off and runs smooth indefinitely. Go rev up and go up slowly or fast, it gets around 2k it gets the fuel fade out, let it go to idle it chokes itself out.
Ok Man, don't let this guy touch this truck again. Show him the extra controller and shorting or chaffing. Wires at turbo actuator had bare wires. So you need two pig tails and how old are those filters? Bottom new, top old and dirty.
So I'm thinking his pig tails, verify restriction/pressure issue with fuel filter test cap, install new top filter.
Anybody have an idea on the CMP something sync going yes no yes no yes no?
Thanks for any input from you fellas
Nick
