My right side stock mirror would not fold into the open position. I felt the mirror had broke. I priced a new Ford mirror at $1400 and went with a $170 (pair) manual aftermarket brand. While I was testing the functions the left mirror failed in the same way (would not fold into the open position). Now I am beginning to think that there is nothing wrong with the right mirror or left mirror but rather the issue is central to both. Anyone have a similar issue or thoughts on it?

I think there was a thread on this a while back. IIRC there is a plastic gear that failed. i think it also gave a source for an aftermarket metal replacement. Do a search on all forums as I don't remember which one it was in.
