Looking to get a 8.5x20' enclosed car trailer and United Trailers makes a horizontal slope nosed (not a standard v-nose) version for better aerodynamics while towing. Is there a really a noticeable difference or should I just get the box type that's in stock? What about v-nose versus flat?

I don't have any perosonal data, but a friend of mine towed 2 similarly loaded trailers back to back with his Dodge and observed a 175 degree drop in EGTs with the V nose vs the flat nose.

Personally, I use a 26 foot flat nose H+H trailer. I haven't had the race car running since I got the truck, so I'm looking forward to towing it in the future. It can't be any worse than towing it with my 90 Chevy 1/2 ton getting 4mpg. LOL

V noses make a huge difference.

We have a flat nose snomobile trailer. That thing is almost as hard to tow as the aerodynamic TT my folks have. MPG are bad with the TT, but for the weight of the snowmobile trailer it is very very bad.

I once towed a box trailer with the flat nose. It was empty, so probably only weighed 2000#. My boost and EGT were the same as towing my 12000# 5er. So I would say aerodynamics play a big part. At the price of fuel these days, anything that will reduce the burn is helpful IMHO.

Good info. Most of the trailers seem to be the flat nose, finding it difficult to locate a good v-nose or slope-nose with a one piece roof (not gavalume) and driver's side escape hatch to better get in/out of the trailer.

Aluminum roof is optional on some.

Special order it to get all the HD stuff such as SuperDuty ramp door, 1" plywood floor, tie-downs, side doors, etc. And watch the GVWR - be sure to get two 3,500, 5,000, or 6,000 pounds tandam axles to have at least 7,000 and up to 12,000 pound GVWR.
