Well with gasoline now over $2.00/gallon to stay, automakers are scrambling to develop more efficient pickups and SUVs. Ford and GM are both announcing that they will go the "hybrid technology" route. DaimlerChrysler, on the other hand, came right out and said hybrid technology is too expensive and isn't feasible at this point. So they are going the diesel technology route instead. I bought one of the first Jeep SUVs with the turbo-diesel, and I am loving it so far. Towing/hauling almost 5,000 lbs. I'm getting 20 miles per gallon. Running around empty I'm closer to 23 miles per gallon average in town. This thing is efficient, tows like a dream, and has plenty of driving power. I really love it. There is no way I'd trade it for a gasser or hybrid. I think Ford and GM are making a mistake by not going the diesel route. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
