Are you talking about the stain down the back of your oil pan or the torque converter cover being damp? Either one is minuscule - as one member put it - just your truck marking its territory.

The 7.3 is designed such that any leak on the top side will drain into the valley and out a weep hole in the back. From there, it dribbles down the back of the motor, coming out the torque converter cover like you are seeing. You need to get on the top of your motor, clean it up, and then go looking for the source.

Watch these videos - they will give you and idea of what to be looking for:

I agree with RT. Those are minor leaks. I'd be more worried about the rust on the oil pan. You should clean that up and think about recoating the pan with POR-15.

A big deal leak on a 7.3 is when the EPA is called to your location. Those are absolutely nothing to worry about.

That's right. The oil pans are a sore spot for a lot of people. They are fairly thin, prone to rust through, and to change it, you only have to pull the motor out. That makes it $80 bucks for parts and several thousand for labor. The preventative is to wire brush / sand down the pan, and treat it with POR-15.

yeah, 'cept the oil is missing the pan. having been through the nightmare of an oil pan change, I'd recommend puncturing the seal on the front of the pan & let it dribble down/aft.

I've considered an oil-spray system on the entire undercarriage!

The worst part of the work order isn't so much the pan change itself, ($1700 even at a dealer isn't SO bad) it's what will accompany it when you start disturbing 10 year old equipment that hasn't seen the light of day since assembly: body bolts, canon plugs ... the list just grows at a seemingly exponential rate.

Unconscionable Ford would have done this ... but ... on the otherhand, Ford is in business to sell trucks (vehicles) ... Designed Obsolescence is the first order of business.

i need to find a trustworty diesel mechanic. id like to take it in just for a routine maintence. need to find something here in ct. im aways nervous going to a dealership. i know the rates are higher to begin with but is there some good dealerships in ct anyone know? truck is in pretty sweet condition and the guy took care of it well. had a lot of maintence slips to go with the truck when i got it. but i'd lke to keep it in tip top shape.
