Hey Guys
- I just baught my first diesel two weeks ago ('96 Extended cab lifted with 35x12.5) it has 180000 miles on it, the guy i baught it from claimed that, between oil changes it might only be a quart or two low with a leak. the leak came from where the dipstick entered the oil pan(and only leaked when the engine was running, quite a bit too i couldnt run to put a board under it before there was a dime size drip). instead of pulling the motor to drop the pan (which alot of people told me thats what i would have to do) i just put high temp silicone on it and it has seemed to work very well; after 225 miles that i have put on it the oil level has not budged.
When we went to get the truck as we started it. We made sure that it didnt smoke (which it didnt) got it home changed the oil and then about a week later i noticed that it puffed a basket ball size puff of blue smoke then tappered off to just being able to tell that its blowing smoke. I then would let it warm up and drive off when i got where i was going i noticed it stopped smoking. then after watching for the past week i noticed it only did it after sitting all night, it wouldnt even smoke after a nine hour work day, only after over like 12 or 15 hours of sitting. I noticed that it had a K&N filter on it (which i hear those arent good for diesels). I thought it might be the injector o-rings after sitting for 3-4 weeks for sale. I guess after this whole long story im just wondering what you guys think, if im right if im wrong, anything to do to test my theory, or any suggestions you guys have.
Thanks guys

Read this being new here, its a great place to start. Might even answer some other questions on your mind.

My advice is to toss that K&N and get yourself a Tymar intake and downpipe if you dont already have one.

As fas the smoke, dont worry about it. These engines depend on heat to ignite the fuel. Upon start up, that heat isnt there yet. Just make sure your glow plug system is operating properly. That link will explain the glow plug system in detail. Some ppl here have drove themself up the wall trying to clear up smoke @ start up, my take is to keep an eye on the fluids and the gp's, and dont sweat the small stuff.
