this is one of the problems the dealership couldn't fix. now it's off to a qualified mechanic.

any time the truck isn't plugged in and it sits for a length of time in the cold, i get this smoke. once it warms up, the smoke goes away. (you'll know from a couple other threads of mine that theres low compression on the passenger side, 320, 400, 340, 300. you can also hear the missfire through the exhaust. it goes away slightly when the smoke goes away.

Wow, that does not look good. I assume you have ruled out your glow plugs? Hopefully the new head will fix that.

i'm at a loss at this point. at first i thought it was because of the lack of an air intake heater, but that's way too much smoke for that. when it's plugged in overnight, it's fine, just a little blue-ish smoke.

Mine would smoke real bad with 3 glow plugs that were bad. I think bluish smoke is a sign of bad o rings on the injectors. Some blue smoke on start-up is normal. Do you use a lot of oil? I would make sure to check your glow plugs just to rule that out but sounds like you have bigger problems. I saw some re manufactured engines on ebay that were not to pricey. Might be worth weighing your options. Good luck.
