Hey guys, this weekend some [censored] broke into my truck and tried to steal my navigation system. I haven't even had the truck for two payments yet. Anyway, here are a few questions.

He jimmied the lock with a screw driver I think, so now the lock is broken. Can I get a door lock from ford that will match my ignition so I won't have to have two keys? (this wouldn't be a big deal, but the door lock actuators do not work very well so I have been using the key to get into the truck.)

Are these locks easy to break in to. The only damage to the truck other than to the navigation system was to this lock. We weren't in the store for more than 30 mins (in broad daylight) and by the time we got out he had already and easily it seems got into the truck, f'd with and broke the navigation system realized what a dumbass he was for not knowing how to get the navigation system out, smashed it with his tool and was long gone.

Is the keyless entry on these trucks also an alarm system? This truck is the lariat edition with most of the options for that year including the keyless entry. If its not, please recommend a good alarm system.

It really sucks that we are out here busting out ass's to have nice things like our trucks and some SOBs out there have to F with our stuff because the have no morals. I just wish I would have caught him in the act!

Thanks guys for reading my rant and any help with the questions would be great.

The ford dealer can get you a new lock and key it to your truck. I have seen several here at the dealership that have been broken into. The sad fact is that if someone really wants to get into your car/truck, no matter what it is or what alarm you have on it, he can.

Sorry to hear, but join the crowd. I had Jimmi-Jammers on mine and they still got in and stole all my tools and camera. So here's what I did. You can get any competant body shop to recommend a lock fixer and he can key the new lock mechanism to fit your truck. BUT, when he fixes it, make sure you get a set of Jimmi-Jammers ( 2 sets if you have a crew cab) and a pair of hose clamps about 1-1/2-2'' diameter. When the thief uses the screw driver, he pops the metal clip at the end of the plastic housing and that allows the door latch to get unlocked. The hose clamp goes around the metal clip and then the JJ's are placed so a screwdriver can't get under the plastic handle. The back doors only need the JJ's as there is no lock. Once in place, the thief will have to break the entire lock mechanism, which can be done, but takes alot longer and makes alot more noise. I also added a Clifford 3.5 alarm. Here is the web site for the JJ's:

just get guidepoint and keep them from stealing the whole thing...hide EVERYTHING else!

Buy a rear door handle and put it up front...eliminates the key hole vulnerability issue, plus the new ones have a sort of brace built in to keep them from being pryed out. Quite a few members have done this and just use the remote to open. Just remember to change the battery when you notice it getting weak.

My solution: Get an ugly dog, train him to think the truck is his home, by having him sleep in the bed. I guarantee, you won't have to waste your money on a car alarm some determined thief will bypass anyway.

As for me, I choose the guaranteed (yet less attractive) solution. That is to drive an old 6.9 diesel, with Tanner (the alarm system) in the back. People think they need a tetnus shot just to walk by it. I haven't touched the door key in over three years,(since Tanner made it his home), and I still have the CD player in the dash, CD's on the seat and an open ashtray full of change.

People can't decide which is uglier, the truck or the dog. I think it's a toss up.

Beamer, in what part of the country are you? I see a house in the background of your alarm picture, and it WAY up on stilts?
