good luck had to take the whole thing a part takes a 5.5 millimeter wrench to get it apart but you can do it. tare the entire cluster out and get it on a clean workbench(lol)
and go to town about 7 or 8 nuts and you can have it a part. I was told it was a stealer tool to take the lamps out so i did it this way. Go ahead and replace all 6 of them while your in there just for peace of mind.

You need to pop the dash out first - it is one piece and snaps in. Note that your radio is attached and will slide, perhaps with some effort, out of the chassis with the dash. You will have to unhook the headlight switch harness and the 4x4 switch harness (if you have that switch) to swing the dash out of the way.
There are then 4 hex-head screws that hold the instrument cluster in place. Lift it out gently, as you will need to squeeze two release tabs and slide down and out the gearshift indicator from the instrument cluster before you can pull it out more than an inch or two. There will be enough slack in the cluster harness to flip it upside down so you can get to the instrument lights - they are the black circular fittings in the back of the cluster. The come out by a quarter turn counter-clockwise (you may need needlenose pliers). Then pull the bare bulb out of the bulb housing. Most parts houses like NAPA offer a "long life" version of that bulb - well worth the extra buck.

its kinda of a pain, but not too bad; just did it today (and I only had one bulb out, but it was driving me crazy every time I drove at night); went ahead and replaced all 5 illumination bulbs in the gauge cluster for safe measure...
